Protecting private keys is essential. But it is only one part of exchange security. A compromised employee device, privileged service, or withdrawal workflow could potentially allow an attacker to misuse legitimate infrastructure without directly extracting a private key. That is why institutional security needs multiple layers: 🔹 Strong controls over employee devices and privileged access. 🔹 Independent verification of withdrawal intent. 🔹 Destination and transaction-policy enforcement. 🔹 Monitoring for suspicious wallet authorization changes. 🔹 Evidence-driven incident detection and response. Most importantly, security controls should evaluate a transaction before it is signed—not rely exclusively on detecting suspicious activity after funds have moved. The incident is still under investigation, and its complete technical lessons will depend on the verified post-mortem. But one principle remains clear: A valid signature proves authorization at the cryptographic level.
