A friend came round today for help setting up her new - 1st wheelchair. I had forgotten how difficult everything is at 1st. Watching her trying to get out of my flat over a 1cm step was awful. But in the street I was so annoyed. She shouldn't have to struggle like that in 21st C – at Camden Town, London

Notable that (other than Polly Billington) no one mentioned the #UnpaidCarers - the UK’s largest - and most neglected - workforce who also paying or subsidising social care costs to the tune of £184 bn a year …

What planet are Tories on thinking you can fund adult social care without tax rises? They just want to cut 'welfare' but that's nasty and wouldn't suffice. Ric Holden can't defend the Tory position. #Westminsterhour #r4today

Last year, Alain Roux and Michel Roux Jr received our Outstanding Contribution Award, recognising an individual or property that has demonstrated exceptional service and made a lasting contribution to the hospitality industry.
As the sons of the late Michel and Albert Roux, they have played a vital role in ensuring the Roux family legacy has not only continued, but flourished. Their influence extends far beyond their own restaurants, with a shared commitment to mentoring, developing and inspiring the next generation of chefs.
In 2024, the Roux Scholarship celebrated an incredible 40 years. Over four decades, the competition has helped shape the careers of some of the UK’s most respected culinary talent, including Sat Bains, Mark Birchall, Luke Selby, Hrishikesh Desai and Adam Smith.
Their dedication to education, excellence and the future of the industry made them truly deserving recipients.
A special thank you to our award sponsor, James Hallam, for supporting this important recognition.
Who will be recognised for making an exceptional impact on the hospitality industry this year? The winner will be revealed on 21 September at the AA Hospitality Awards.

This Sunday a film about the Disabled Punk Movement is having its premiere. I'm obviously in it but I can't go because the @BFI don't have enough wheelchair spaces in the cinema. That's a perfect line for a new disability version of Ironic.

Who had told gardeners & landscapers that gravel in any form is a suitable accessible material for paths? Watching Love Your Garden & yet again it's being used for a "wheelchair accessible" garden. Another fail but no one will mention it.
Please STOP using gravel. – at Camden Town, London

Tube strikes hit hospitality businesses, our teams and commuters, but they also impact on our reputation as a visitor destination.
"People might look at the strikes in London and think, maybe not this year," @allen_m_simpson, our Chief Executive, told @BBCLondonNews.

Oxford Street is going traffic-free.
I’ve given the green light to transform it into a world-class, fully accessible pedestrian avenue. The heart of London, reclaimed for people.
