On this episode of Understanding Mobilize Recovery, Chekesha talks about what it takes to step forward and share your story. She's a national addiction and mental health advocate, TEDx speaker, Philadelphia Inquirer writer, and founder of the KAYOS TO CLARITY Foundation. Watch the full episode: youtu.be/pNEE9Tp6Lus?si=eFZG… After a 10-year addiction to prescription opioids, Chekesha entered recovery on August 8, 2010. Now 16 years in recovery, she has dedicated her work to breaking the silence around addiction and mental health and bringing prevention conversations to young people and families. Her advice if you're wondering whether to tell your story or get involved: "Don't wait to share your story. Go out, connect with people that are advocates, do interviews, share your story, and don't wait." Thousands of people may come together through Mobilize Recovery, and there may be just one person who connects with you and your story. Her message is simple: Healing happens in community. 📺 More from Chekesha: youtu.be/FxOP6SLSFW0?is=h49q… 📰 Chekesha on PHL17: phl17.com/weekend-philler/ch… 🤝 Follow KAYOS TO CLARITY: facebook.com/share/1PdU6NU5m… #OperationUnderstanding #MobilizeRecovery

The 50th anniversary of Operation Understanding marks a moment of reflection and recommitment. The 52 pioneers of 1976 demonstrated that organized, public advocacy could change the way a nation understood addiction. That work is not finished — and the recovery movement of 2026 is its direct continuation. For more information, visit mobilizerecovery.org. #mobilizerecovery #operationunderstanding

I am deeply honored to receive the Recovery Advocacy Award from the Minnesota Alliance of Recovery Community Organizations. This recognition means more than I can express. My work has always been about showing up for the recovery community, elevating ethical practice, and fighting for the services and support people deserve. To be acknowledged by peers and leaders who share that commitment is incredibly meaningful. I’m grateful for everyone who has walked alongside me, challenged systems with me, and believed in the power of recovery to change lives and communities. This award fuels my determination to keep pushing forward with integrity, compassion, and hope. #ThisIsWhatRecoveryLooksLike
