Why should you read #crimsonthreads? Each book is chocked full about what about horror. Not just scares, gore, and dreadful moments. It tackles the human condition through inhumane circumstances. Horror is where the evil and conflict of daily life becomes a tangible thing we can defeat. Amazon.com/dp/B0BQHBXKSN #horror #horrorbooks #urbanfantasy #darkfantasy

Every so often I get asked about how to start reading again. This is an excellent post. I would add two things; short story collections are great places to start if you have an incredibly shot attention span AND maybe controversially... In my personal opinion, I would recommend focusing in on physical books over ebooks and audiobooks (especially if the latter two are accessed by an app on your phone). I find it's easier to lock in on a new story when it's in front of me and there's zero chance of notifications. Also, no ads!
01. Start with shorter books and build up your reading stamina. Possibly your ability to focus has been sapped by other media. Luckily, this is a problem with a simple solution. The more you read, the easier reading will become. 02. Carry a book with you. I find it very unsettling when I visit airports and everyone—babies, kids, parents—is glued to a screen. We spend a good chunk of our lives in DMV lines and sitting in diners. You can get a shocking amount of reading done in those spare moments. 03. Read before falling asleep. This is actually where I get most of my reading done. Resolve that for the next hour or however long, you’re not going to look at your phone. There’s something almost hypnotically soothing about reading in silence at the end of a day. 04. Reduce the level of non-book entertainments. This is the main reason most people struggle with reading, because we live in a world of infinite diversions. Harold Bloom said, “There are enormous obstacles to deep reading now. The tyranny of the visual is a frightening thing.” But once you realize those diversions are the very things keeping you from reading, it becomes easier to prioritize reading as a hobby. Books are both good for the brain (in the same way exercise is good for the body) and more emotionally rewarding than much of what we consume. 05. Keep a reading diary. It can be something as simple as jotting down the titles of every book you complete. Seeing those titles begin to add up is enormous fun, and will motivate you to want to keep reading. 06. Remember that reading is supposed to be fun. There’s a reason books were the chief entertainment for American pioneers and British coal-miners of the nineteenth century. We once had a massively literate working-class, and I believe we could revive a culture of reading for pleasure.

One of my favorite illustrations from the original AD&D Dungeon Masters Guide (1979) is Darlene’s wonderful succubus. ❤️ But did you know? Take a look at the second image. That’s Gustave Doré’s depiction of Myrrha from Dante’s Inferno, published in 1861. Look at the pose. The bent knee. The arm resting over her head. 118 years later, add a pair of bat wings, a black sun, and a little Darlene magic, and you’ve got a classic piece of AD&D artwork! 😈 I absolutely LOVE discovering connections like this in the art we grew up with. Now I’m wondering… how many OTHER classic D&D illustrations have secrets like this hiding in plain sight? 👀

This is the note you find in an Umbrella lab before you’re attacked by a zombie dog.
JUST IN: Palmer Luckey's genetically modified military dog startup, Warhound, comes out of stealth, aiming to create enhanced canines for the U.S. military.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This is NOT Palmer's company at all, his company Anduril is only supplying the tech for the dogs, and this is a wholly owed Collosal entiity x.com/palmerluckey/s…

The reason Gen X often says modern generations are soft, is usually because modern TV and film doesn't want to shock, offend or trigger people. They will soften characters, justify bad behavior, and often give a pointless backstory to redeem a villain.
