Young Conservatives should be more than just drinks and the occasional trip to conference. It should be where the next generation learns to campaign, develop ideas, represent their communities and eventually, lead. That’s why I endorse @MGoodwinFreeman as the next YC chair 💪

WHSmith survived two world wars, the Great Depression and Amazon. Private equity took barely a year to bring it to its knees. Conservatives defend free markets. But what happens when they undermine the communities we want to conserve? My latest for @ConHome 👇🏻

Congratulations @KevinGhateh on his election as National Chair of the Young Conservatives! I wish him well and hope we can all work together and unite YCs to deliver on the views expressed to us three candidates during this election. I'm so proud of the fun campaign we ran, everything that was thrown at us and the extra grey hairs I now have! There are so many amazing Young Conservatives out there who do so much good, and I hope they get the opportunities to come forwards, get involved and thrive. I threw my name because I wanted YCs to get more. More opportunities, more engagement across the UK, more support for local branches and more influence and voices. Thank you to everyone who supported me, campaigned for me and believed in what we were trying to achieve. We had fun despite everything. Congratulations also to @ReissCordreyUK , who I’m sure has a very bright future ahead of him! And once again to Kevin! We are one, big Young Conservative family and I can't wait for the next chapter. Matthew

The results are as follows: Kevin Ghateh: 46.1% Reiss Cordrey: 30% Matthew Goodwin-Freeman: 23.9% This was the first election for YC Chair in 30 years, and sets us up to continue growing: new branches, more events, training, and campaigning opportunities. Congratulations to Reiss and Matthew for putting themselves forward for the role, and running excellent campaigns. Join Kevin and become a member today: membership.conservatives.com…

I’ve known Matthew through Harrow politics for a while, and what has stood out to me is how much he actually LISTENS, from local Facebook groups to his new national YC survey and Q&A sessions. Excited to see how this goes @MGoodwinFreeman

🚨 POLICY ANNOUNCEMENTS 🚨 #2 & #3 More Voices Around the Table 👥 More Influence on National Policy 📢 YCs are filling in my survey saying they don't feel part of the conversation. So let's change that. If elected National Chair, I will push for: ✅️ Dedicated YC seats on boards & committees ✅️ Consultation of Young Conservatives on policy and proposals ✅️ Set up a Board and Executive Council with greater representation of YCs, regions and members Because policies about young people, should be made with young people. And that's why on Day 1 of my campaign, I launched my YC Survey, because I'm listening! #MoreWithMatthew

Not every Young Conservative can drop things and get into London for a Friday night at 7pm🍻 That London-centric concern is what you're telling me in my YC survey (matthewgoodwinfreeman.uk/yc) So my first promise is that under me, we will have More engagement with YCs ACROSS the UK 🇬🇧 Branches working across Regions, together. Events alternating between London and outside. A YC Board made from every region, accountable to every YC. Ensuring everyone is kept in the loop. That's what we need so everyone feels part of this party. And that's why you'll get #MoreWithMatthew Comment what you think below 👇
🚨 ANNOUNCEMENT 🚨 Suprise! I'm in the final 3 running to be National Chair of the Young Conservatives 🏃‍♂️ Because I think we can do so much more for Young Conservatives throughout this party ✅️ More branches right across the UK ✅️ More opportunities for young people to stand ✅️ More training for younger candidates ✅️ More voices around the table ✅️ More for young men and women looking to put themselves forwards 🫵 So if you're a YC, I've got a survey live right now - because this is about YOUR VIEWS as much as it is about me! Take 10 seconds. Tell me your priorities. #GetMoreWithMatthew 🔗 matthewgoodwinfreeman.uk/yc

I wrote this column arguing that Britain has become too comfortable with infrastructure failure. And just now, NATS has failed… AGAIN. I wish my timing had been worse. @ConHome

Britain is a Christian country, yet this image is a sad reminder that if we do not conserve our own faith and traditions, nobody else will. For the Archbishop of Canterbury to honour on the 25th anniversary of 9/11, a cleric who praised Bin Laden is a significant lapse. I’m pleased that Conservative shadow cabinet members @NJ_Timothy @Rebecca_SPaul discovered some of this information and called this out publicly, forcing the church to change its position. Yes, the church might have been ignorant of some facts, but the presence of a woman with a full face veil, covered head to toe, in an outfit widely known as a visible symbol of female oppression should have given pause for thought. Our Culture and Integration Commission was set up to end this sort of naive belief that all cultures are equal. No other party in British politics is doing this work to protect our culture.

My condolences to Prime Minister Andy Burnham and all his family. No matter how old you are, or how much you try to prepare, losing your father is a profoundly painful experience. A part of your life that has always been there is suddenly gone forever and it can feel as though a part of you won’t ever be the same again. May Roy Burnham Rest In Peace.

My thoughts today are with His Majesty King Charles III and the whole Royal Family, 4 years on from the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. I still treasure my memories of the occasions I was fortunate enough to meet Her Late Majesty, and I know so many people across the country will be thinking of her today, of what she meant to them, and of the example she set. Those 70 years of service to this country will never be forgotten.

Austerity is not a dirty word. Bad austerity is. Fewer police. Fewer prison officers. Fewer frontline staff. While the top half of the civil service grows more bloated than ever. We didn’t cut too much. We cut too stupidly. My latest for ConservativeHome 👇

For two years, Labour treated legal risk as a reason for government inaction. The new Attorney General now says ministers should be prepared to take more. That is right. But it begs the question, why did it take so long to reach such an obvious conclusion? Lawyers advise; ministers decide.

It's good to see someone sensible and tough enough to call out acts of non-integration in this position. Wish you all the best in this new role @Katie_Lam_MP!
Thanks so much to Kemi and to James for his work in this role. Under Labour, rent is up. Council tax is up. People who work hard and do the right thing are finding it harder than ever to get on the housing ladder. Meanwhile, those who break the rules are getting away with it. Far too many local councillors are wasting taxpayer money. Far too many candidates are running campaigns designed to appeal to particular ethnic, religious, or racial groups. Those who ignore our laws, including Gypsies and Travellers, are being allowed to get away with it. Those who do the right thing get crushed, while the rule-breakers get punished. This cannot go on. People are fed up, and they're right to be. I cannot wait to take the fight to this Government.
