I narrowly avoided driving over a pothole near 36th and Nicollet Ave the other day that was so deep, I could hear the distant roar of a Balrog coming from it.

Looks like those Mpls winter parking restrictions are going to stay in effect for a bit...
Last week I was on the air with @angeladavisMPR and mentioned that I have ancestors who are Cherokee Freedmen. This is a picture of my CF paternal great-great grandfather Jerry Vann taken some time around 1884.
I was told growing up that we “have Cherokee” in the Williams family. I didn’t learn until much later that we’re descended from people enslaved by the Cherokee who themselves were driven from their ancestral land by the US govt and forced west to the state now known as Oklahoma.
If you are interested in learning more about the Cherokee Freedmen, there are lots of great resources out there. okhistory.org/learn/freedmen I’m still learning about this part of my family. And I’d love to hear from others who also share this heritage.
City of Mpls has issued a boil water advisory for area impacted by water main break: Third Street North from Lowry Avenue to 26th Avenue AND Fourth Street North from 29th to 26th Avenue.
Thao asking for a bench trial.
Replying to @JonSCollins
Former Minneapolis officer Tou Thao has asked for a bench trial instead of a jury trial in the killing of George Floyd. It would be just on count two, aiding and abetting manslaughter. (5)
In a surprise move in court, Kueng accepted a plea deal from the state similar to one taken by his former co-defendant Thomas Lane. follow @JonSCollins for updates! More to come on @MPRnews
Add me to the list of reporters profoundly saddened by the death of Ken Barcus. He was old school. Always asked 'so where's the story here? why should people care?' Ken helped me iron that out whenever we worked together. RIP npr.org/2022/10/11/112484764…
Hey! I'm on @TheCurrent this hour pitching during our fall fund drive. Please contribute today!! And thank you for your continued support of @MPRnews and Classical MPR
