Good article in The Guardian about the cut-through Jon Ossoff has been getting on social media. If Ossoff does become the Dems' 2028 nominee, the optics will become even more important and he and his team will have to pick a v. good VP for his ticket. theguardian.com/us-news/2026…

Thankfully, my Crohn's is in remission and I only have to take a mild ASA and avoid certain foods to help keep it that way. Given how badly UC affected my mum, anything that can help diagnose and treat IBD more effectively is very much welcome. theguardian.com/society/2026…

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. With that in mind, I wanted to remind you of this video produced by Norwich City; it remains one of the most profound things I've ever seen produced on the subject.

The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means “the lake is beautiful, the lake is big”. The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America. We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms. Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario – then, now and always.

Today we mourn the loss of a true sporting icon, Sir Billy Boston, who has passed away surrounded by his family. Rugby League’s first knight, a Wigan legend, and "Everybody's Hero," his legacy on and off the field will endure for eternity. Rest in peace, Sir Billy. 🍒⚪️

As someone who read cultural studies as part of my undergraduate degree, find this and other recent articles about the decline of monoculture very interesting. And I too have never knowingly heard Rein Me In. theguardian.com/music/2026/a…

For this to succeed, trust in local media also needs to be boosted. For example, I disagree that the MEN is "regarded as a role model for how local media has been able to adapt and prosper" given its worsening website the last 10+ years. theguardian.com/politics/202…

There's a fundamental flaw to Burnham's MBacc scheme and this idea - it gives young people qualifications that are only recognised by a few firms in their local area. A UK education should mean you can work anywhere in the UK, and ideally mean you can go out to the world too.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham has pledged that 14-year-olds in England will be able to sign up to new technical courses linked to local industry. The aim is to give pupils a clearer route into work, with more than a million young people currently not in education, employment or training.

Good episode of #TheMediaShow this week. For me, 'Tilly Norwood' is Particle6's proof of concept - as Eline Van der Velden states, she's now talking to Hollywood studios about AI, no doubt about ways to create the lead actor doing a stunt, create individualised AI crowds, etc.
Latest edition of The Media Show with guests Andrew Neil, Lizzy Buchan of the Daily Mirror, political comms expert Jennifer Gerber, Tom Nicholas of Slow News Day, Eline Van der Velden - the creator of AI actor Tilly Norwood, & Deadline’s Jake Kanter bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002z7…

Interesting study given my mum had colitis and I have Crohn's. The wisdom is that IBD is hereditary - will be interested to note if studies like this change that wisdom and having a shared environment will now be considered to play more of a role. theguardian.com/environment/…

Good edition of #TheMediaShow this wk. Agreed w\ @IainDale on need to have civilised debate and considered takes rather than performative 'conflict', and also on the hit to BBC current affairs output - cancelling HARDtalk was a terrible decision imho. bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002yx…

It's a shame that @BBCWorld have seemingly reduced #ThePresidentsPath to 15 mins/wk. What Trump does affects the world, and @SumiSomaskanda, @CaitrionaPerry and @BernieDebusmann and guests - @cmsub and @finnygo - do a great job of cutting through the noise each week.

I've never been a big beer drinker, but when I do, I've switched entirely to no-or-low-alcohol beer for a number of reasons. If nolo beer can be more accessible (stocked in more places, more variety, etc) in the UK, that would be a very good thing imho. theguardian.com/business/202…

Interesting article on The Guardian website today about David Beckham as a brand (inc. the many ads he appears in) and as a businessman. Can't help thinking it should be more in-depth re. Beckham having a vampire effect on the ads he appears in. (1/2) theguardian.com/football/202…

On this, here is the @Forbes article The Guardian mentions on the vampire effect David Beckham has a brand spokesman, highlighting how the intensity of Beckham's personal brand can distract audiences and dilute the messaging of ads he appears in. (2/2) forbes.com/sites/shannbiglio…
