Definitely a bit of rose-tinted glasses, but I think a big part is that it was more like esports, it was more "genuine" content and less actively clickbaiting/clipbaiting, etc. People played/streamed because they loved it (and made them a tiny bit of $(at least compared to now))

feels like it was just yesterday too...
