"Brit" and "Aussie" are neutral, widely accepted abbreviations that people routinely use to describe themselves. The P-word, on the other hand, has a long history in Britain as a racist slur. It was/is shouted at South Asian immigrants as they were/are abused, assaulted and terrorised on British streets. The racist violence of the 1970s and 1980s even became known as "P***-bashing." And the insult wasn't confined to Pakistanis. It was routinely directed at Indians, Bangladeshis and other South Asians, regardless of their actual nationality. Words don't acquire their meaning simply from the letters they contain. They acquire meaning from their history, context and usage. It's really not that difficult to understand. Unless you're a far-right thicko.
