La Maupin was not the only famous cross-dressing woman of her day. There was also the heroic, decorated woman soldier Geneviève Prémoy, known as "Chevalier Baltazar". For a decade and a half, she passed for a man.

For those who find the bisexual, cross-dressing, sword-wielding opera star of my forthcoming novel, “La Maupin, Mistress of the Sword” hard to believe, I offer the "The Story of the Marquise-Marquis de Banneville" first published in in Paris in 1695. 1/n

It is, in short, what you might call a "transgender love story". To seriously oversimplify, in it a physiological male, raised to believe he is a girl falls in love with a boy who cross-dresses and passes as a girl. Of course, terms like "transgender" didn't exist back then… 2/n
…but as this story, first published in 1695, illustrates, the complexity of human relations that they describe were already being talked about in popular media and made sense in the context of society at the time. 3/3

Those who’ve read my comics know I’m an old time fan of Superman and Lex. Confrontations between them have become a trope (witness the Midnight Blue arc in my Invictus comic from @GManComics1). The version in the current film is a different cut, but excellent.
How real are the sensational stories told about La Maupin? It is hard to know. Legends grow up around her. BUT… but this one is the most likely, AND her most inglorious.
I don't have the proof in hand that this incident was real, but… (1 of 2)

USMC Ret. Lt. Colonel Joe Plenzler deployed with the same Marine battalion now heading to Los Angeles.
Marines training for war are now being deployed against American citizens. This crosses a dangerous line.
Brothers, remember your ethos, #RememberYourOath.
I recently came across a drawing by Reno Maniquis of my character, Tai Chi Dragon, and couldn’t resist turning it into a pair of covers for one of my @GManComics1 titles, Invictus. I May just have to feature her in an issue, just to get this cover printed.

My novel, "La Maupin, Mistress of the Sword", opens with a teaser, an action scene between 2 characters, but the next chapter starts out 8 years earlier and it takes 9 chapters to get back here. So "Prologue"? "Chapter 1"? Something else?
Here it is:
