Excited to share my first, first author paper which has just been published in @eLife. We show that a micronutrient deficiency is what limits lifespan on high protein diets! Thanks to my amazing supervisors @mattpiperlab @ChristenMirth and Carla Sgro. elifesciences.org/articles/6…

In case you missed this. I’ve been including this possibility in lectures for 25 years - sad to see #ClimateEmergency abc.net.au/news/2023-07-24/a…

Today’s my last day at @MonashBiol before I head off to @UCLCBER for my first postdoc thanks to @EMBO 🥲 I’m so grateful to have had the most phenomenal supervisors and to have been a part of the Piper, Mirth and Sgro labs. I don’t know who will pose for my ridiculous photos now

What happens if you manipulate the major nutritional determinant of lifespan (sterols) independently of the major nutritional determinant of egg production? @BrookeZanco et al found mothers live longer and lay more eggs on high sterol diets. reader.elsevier.com/reader/s… @mattpiperlab

#AUSEVO2021 Julian Beaman @Flinders and collabs looked into thermal adaptation in birds, particularly important for seabirds like Arctic auks. Adaptation occurs freq. perhaps due to past changing climates.

Hehe thanks so much Cathy!
Not sure I could give such an amazing talk as @BrookeZanco in the middle of the night! Metabolism of Ageing @B_S_R_A @BiochemSoc #BSRA2021
Hey @ScottMorrisonMP, I’ve read and reread the transcript of your presser yesterday responding to the #IPCCReport, and there’s a bunch of stuff you’re wrong about. Time to bust the Morrison Myths about climate change. Here’s a thread.

Why low protein/high carb diets are both good (Okinawa, Med) and bad (processed diets) - our new papers shows it depends on which carbs dilute the protein. @tednaiman @KevinH_PhD @JohnSpeakman4 @ProfTimNoakes @FructoseNo @garytaubes @KetoCarnivore nature.com/articles/s42255-0…

Male fertility may be the chink in the armor against climate change: Our new study in @NatureComms suggests that the loss of male fertility at high temperatures -which occurs at temperatures much lower than their CTmax -may be a better predictor of climate change vulnerability

I am incredibly honoured and proud to be the recipient of the 2021 Gottschalk Medal by the @Science_Academy I'm also honoured to be a scientist and lead a fantastic team studying the role of the gut microbiota linking fibre and prevention of cardiovascular disease
A/Prof Francine Marques from @MonashUni has shown how more dietary fibre will improve our blood pressure and lower the chance of developing serious disease. She is the recipient of the 2021 Gottschalk Medal. #Honorifics21
