Grangemouth produced 97% of Scotland’s aviation fuel. We now have to import all our aviation fuel.
Scotland is Europe's 2nd biggest oil producer. We now have to import all our oil products at inflated prices.

Travel north through the beautiful Lake District and you soon arrive at a vast industrial estate that used to be known as the Scottish Borders. Mile after mile of hideous windmills can be seen scattered across scarred hills, an eyesore no English patriot would tolerate at home. What kind of people live here, the visitor must think, who desecrate their own landscape with such passion?
It’s a strange kind of Green who seeks to save the planet by destroying so much of Scotland’s natural environment. They’re blind to the eyesore they’ve created in their religious pursuit of Net Zero. They’re culpable in the mass slaughter of puffins in East Lothian, being driven close to extinction.
Should we care for birds if we meet our climate targets? Are they not a price worth paying to save the planet?
Well, the last time a bird species was driven towards extinction was in China and it did not end well. As part of Mao Zedong’s Great Leap (Transition) Forward in 1958, the little sparrow was labelled public enemy number one and billions were killed. This unwittingly contributed to the Great Chinese Famine, as there were no longer enough birds to eat crop pests. Mother Nature’s ways are complex. Force unnatural change at your peril.
The biggest future threat is not AI doing our thinking for us but rather the danger of humans not thinking at all.
It’s been a long time since anyone in Scotland gave serious thought to energy policy. We’ve been too busy sucking on UK renewable energy support subsidies, an incredible £233bn since 2002. All this money wasted and many Scots still can’t afford to heat our homes this winter.
Fortunately, a bright chap called (from Edinburgh) has released a book called The Energy Trap. He explains, in terms even I can understand, the folly of our single-minded pursuit of renewables. We need to ask the Scottish political class, across all parties, to read this book.
Cheap oil and gas are running out, but neither the environment nor the consumer can afford a renewables only substitute. Both the ridiculous sight of Chinese turbines being dragged up the Forth (by diesel-powered ships) and the proposal for 200-metre windmills on the Lammermuir Hills are testament to that.
Richard’s book makes a convincing argument for using what’s left of fossil fuels as a bridge to a nuclear-powered future. The consequence of not crossing that bridge is a standard of living in Scotland well below that enjoyed by our parents.
The renewable alternative is Green madness on stilts.

The title of this article may have a familiar ring to it. I pinched it from a song written in 1966 by Jonny Copeland that was popularised by the Alexander Brothers. Which got me thinking: I wonder if I could write a song using the theme of Green madness above? So I gave it a go (with a little assistance) and it will be released exclusively tomorrow on YesThink.

Should an independent Scotland seriously consider joining the 21 other countries of the world which have no military at all and use the money on fixing the potholes, funding schools, the NHS and other services far more generously instead?

The pyramids across modern-day Egypt and Sudan were built by Africans who built them to store food and also use it to bury their dead especially their rulers, because they shared similar culture and traditions unlike many other races and people who burned their dead to ashes through history. Most of those pyramids are way older than several invasions of settlers and invaders recorded across those regions which have resulted in the people we have there today.

There will be no foreign currency reserves building up because any foreign currency in the country will be being spent to desperately buy things that Scotland needs from overseas (almost everything) while the economy collapses.
Thousands of people will be in deep negative equity and property prices will plummet. Restricting buyers is the least of the problems.
You have to persuade electricity generators to accept the Scottish currency for their electricity, while their capital loans will be denominated in hard currency.
Why would a bank want to be "Scottish-authorised"? No-one will have any money, and the interest rate on loans would need to be insane.
This is layers upon layers of stupidity.

ALT A beautiful beach and a distant view of the abbey on the enchanting island of Iona. The image shows a white sandy beach in the foreground at low tide, with patches of rock showing and the clear sea lapping in from the bottom right of the frame. Across the middle of the frame, closer on the left, is a line of mainly stone two-storey houses. Beyond their far end, in the right middle of the frame, is distant Iona Abbey. The sky is blue.
