🗣️ "There's a lovely lady called Maya Angelou, an American poet and civil rights activist.
"She said 'people may forget what you said, people may indeed forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.'"
"I don't think I'll ever forget what Walter did or what Walter said, but I guarantee you, I will never, ever, ever forget how much that man made us all feel.
"Walter - I love you to bits. Thank you very much for the memories."
Legendary Rangers manager Walter Smith sadly passed away five years ago today. 🙏

Eddie Kingston cut this incredibly powerful & heartfelt promo in PROGRESS about life and his friends Butcher/PAC with fans appreciating him ♥️
“You lose real people. Life is a fucked up place... BUT I WAKE UP EVERY MORNING AND DO THIS BECAUSE OF YOU, FANS. You put me into tears with some of your messages. After Andy and Ben passed away, I didn't leave my house for 5 days and wanted to leave this business... but I love you guys.”
At least, Naito is keeping it real!
Tetsuya Naito has just admitted defeat at the box office and he has responded by setting his sights on the Tokyo Dome.
“I’m not saying I’ll make NOAH number one in the industry just as a joke.” The GHC Heavyweight Champion’s minimum target is a Tokyo Dome show, something only New Japan can currently stage. He reminded fans that NOAH once drew even bigger crowds there.
His goal is specific. The February 2023 show doesn’t count in his eyes, because it was Keiji Muto’s retirement event and, in Naito’s words, “kind of a special gimmick.” He wants a pure NOAH Dome show - the first since July 2005.
The timing makes it a bold claim. NOAH drew 4,253 at Ryogoku on the 25th, well short of New Japan’s 6,422 earlier this month and Naito called it a complete defeat. Yet he insists the two promotions are closer than people think. New Japan once went through similar spells, and he credits its consecutive Dome shows to brand power. Having competed in both, he doesn’t believe the gap is huge, and he thinks it could be bridged by “a single catalyst or a shift in everyone’s mindset.”
He also showed a willingness to look outwards. “I don’t like relying on other promotions, but then again, I myself am an outsider here.”

Kit of the day: Sampdoria 1994-95, Asics
David Platt joined Sampdoria from Juventus in the summer of 1993 for £5.2 million, after spells at Bari and Juve. In his first season he won the 1994 Coppa Italia under Sven-Göran Eriksson.
In 1994-95 Ruud Gullit came back on loan from Milan, and Sampdoria finished eighth. Platt scored 10 goals in 33 games across all competitions.
They reached the Cup Winners’ Cup semi-final against Arsenal and lost the first leg 3-2 at Highbury on 6 April 1995. In Genoa two weeks later Stefan Schwarz’s late free kick forced extra time. David Seaman, playing with broken ribs, saved three penalties in the shootout, from Siniša Mihajlović, Vladimir Jugović and Attilio Lombardo.
This was the last season with ERG on the front, ending a sponsorship that had begun in 1988. It is the Asics shirt with the lace-up collar.
Kit of the day: Chelsea 1994-96 away, Umbro
Umbro created this tangerine and graphite away shirt for Chelsea that would not clash with any other team in the Premiership. It immediately became controversial with the fans, dubbed a tangerine dream or a nightmare, depending on who you ask.
Ruud Gullit joined from Sampdoria on a free transfer in July 1995 and made his first appearances for Chelsea in this shirt in pre-season. Glenn Hoddle first played him as a sweeper but he later moved him forward and Gullit scored six goals. Chelsea reached the FA Cup semi-final, and Gullit finished second to Eric Cantona as Footballer of the Year.
That summer, working as a BBC pundit at Euro 96 while still a Chelsea player, he coined the phrase “sexy football”. When Hoddle left to manage England, Gullit became player-manager. In May 1997 he won the FA Cup, Chelsea’s first major trophy in 26 years.
In 2026 Nike released a leisure range inspired by the shirt, modelled by Dennis Wise, who had also captained Chelsea in it.
