WE SERVE AN AMAZING COMMUNITY! We are grateful to all the local elected officials and candidates who joined us yesterday for our State of the Schools presentation. Serving alongside leaders who actively engage with our schools and seek opportunities to collaborate is a privilege! The event began with a tour of our new high school facility, made possible by the community's support of the 2023 construction bond. This local investment allowed us to leverage state co-funding, with the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission providing 39% of the total project cost. During the presentation, Superintendent Jason Niedermeyer highlighted the incredible achievements across our district, including earning 4.5 stars on the state report card—exceeding expectations for the second consecutive year. He also outlined our mission, vision, and key strategic priorities. CFO Mark Pepera discussed the evolving landscape of public education finance, including recent legislative shifts that require districts to seek community support more frequently. Yesterday, Superintendent Jason Niedermeyer shared the BCSD vision for the future at the Northern Medina County Chamber Alliance’s State of the Schools presentation. Thank you to the Chamber for hosting us and for your continued partnership with our district! This event was a great chance to highlight how we make sure every Brunswick student crosses the graduation stage with a solid plan—whether that means college, a career, or military enlistment. That preparation starts well before senior year. In eighth grade, students participate in a college and career readiness lab to gain hands-on experience in different jobs. This experience helps students track their interests and build a customized roadmap for life after high school. Last week, @BCSDBrunswickHS @BCSDBHSGuidance hosted the DUNK! Distracted Driving program for our sophomore class, sponsored by the U.S. Army. Many of our sophomores are starting to drive, which makes this the right time to build safe habits. One text or glance at a phone can change everything. Students saw firsthand why keeping their eyes on the road matters. Students also learned about opportunities in the Army, including career training, education benefits, and leadership experience. One seat at Brunswick Auto Mart Stadium has never been sold to anyone. After eight Ohio winters, it is being replaced. @husseyseating donated a new POW/MIA Chair of Honor to replace the original seat, which deteriorated after eight years of outdoor exposure. BCSD rededicated the seat at Friday evening's varsity football game. A Chair of Honor is a permanently empty seat — never sold, never occupied — held for American service members taken prisoner of war or still missing in action. More than 81,000 Americans remain unaccounted for from World War II, the Korean War, the Cold War, the Vietnam War, and the Gulf Wars, according to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency. The chair was originally installed in the fall of 2018 through local donations and support from the district, VFW Post 9520, and American Legion Post 234. Hussey Seating, a family-owned manufacturer founded in 1835, donates Chairs of Honor to venues nationwide. What a way to end the season! The @BCSDBrunswickMS 7th-grade football team beat rival Strongsville 20-8. But the best moment came after the game! One of the football moms, Elizabeth Morgan, is battling cancer. Each player gave her a rose to remind her she isn't fighting alone. These boys are talented players, but what makes them special is how they show up for each other. Their friendships will last long after the season ends. HITTING IT OUT OF THE PARK! On Tuesday, elementary students from across the district participated in an MLB Players STEM League tournament! This hands-on program, created by @learn_fresh, turns math into an interactive game using real-life statistics from @MLB players. Created in partnership with the @MLBPlayersTrust, the league brings learning to life through a baseball-themed board game and fun activities.
