My parents ran a small restaurant. They worked every morning and every night except Sunday night. They employed a couple of staff, but I can assure this Labour fuckwit they were working people.

Labour’s patronising, out-of-touch, politics of envy on display here from Minister Emma Reynolds. What about the thousands of small businesses who employ people? The electrician who works but takes on apprentices? The florist who runs her shop and has a young person work a few hours on weekends? The list is endless and so is Labour’s vindictiveness and denial of reality.

Today Labour MPs have: - said employers aren’t workers so they can tax them more (Reynolds) - refused to commit to the 3% defence spending target (Healey) - said we should rejoin the EU after campaigning saying we shouldn’t (Reeves) - opened the door to slavery reparations by talking up an official apology (Burnham) Are their priorities your priorities?

"Employers aren't working people, they're companies." Let's look at the facts, shall we? 🔹 99.85% of UK businesses are SMEs. Only 8,335 are big corporates.
🔹 4.7 million people run one-person businesses with no staff.
🔹 The rest are builders, hairdressers, café owners and shopkeepers, grafting 60-hour weeks to employ 12.2 million people. They do the job by day, the books by midnight, and pay their staff before they pay themselves. Not working people, @EmmaforWycombe? They pay your salary and expenses…

When I owned my own pharmacy, I both employed people and I worked full time hours as the pharmacist! What a pretentious idiot! Plus, increasing the tax on savings interest, which is classed as income, is increasing income tax!!! #LabourClown

'I don't think employers are working people.' This irrational contempt for small business owners who put everything on the line to create new wealth & jobs in our local communities is so damaging for the country.

Another car crash interview for Labour. They are so out of their depth. Apparently employers are not working people to Labour. Absolutely ridiculous. Great questioning from @CamillaTominey.

1/ When a Treasury Minister explicitly states, "I don't think employers are working people," it isn't a careless gaffe. It is a mask-slip. It reveals a deeply entrenched, 19th-century ideological rot at the heart of modern governance. Let’s break down why this is so dangerous. 🧵

'I don't think employers are working people' Hmm, ok, Minister. In my constituency, the salon owners, nursery owners, cafe owners, restauranteurs, shop owners, pub landlords, builders, dentists, professional advisers....I can go on....all seem to be working pretty damn hard. They are not only providing for themselves and their own families but taking risks to build businesses that can employ and support other people. Many are questioning whether the levels of tax on them make it worth it. That is a problem for us all.

Apparently a business owner who works 7 days a week is not a working person because he employs people. None of these Labour MPs have run a business. So naturally they can only see things through a Marxist lens: any employer is rich, guilty and exploitative by definition.

This may be the most damning statement ever uttered by a Labour minister. It's so revealing of the attitude of a government that thinks that employers are a class that don't work for their profits but somehow exploit others for them - rather than understanding the nature of small and medium-sized businesses and how bloody hard most employers work to create wealth and employment.

This Labour minister doesn’t think employers are ‘working people’. Beyond belief. 🤯 They treat risk-takers and job creators like a never-ending cash machine to pay for more welfare. Labour just don’t get it, because so few have worked in the private sector.

What an extraordinary statement. Apparently, according to Labour, employers aren't working people. Tell that to the small business owners working 60-hour weeks, risking their savings, paying their staff and keeping their businesses afloat. Labour can play with definitions and indulge in endless whataboutery, but it cannot escape the consequences of its decisions. Taxing employers affects jobs, wages and the very people Labour claims to protect.

Emma Reynolds, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, says that employers are not working people. And that putting yet another 2p on income tax for landlords and savers is somehow not income tax. She’s the no.2 minister in the Treasury and attends Cabinet. This is not alright. Throughout the Budget process she must have been fully briefed on its impact so that when she steps out to defend it she can do so without totally messing up. This is not a misstatement on a complex point. This is not an error on a series of figures where one goes awry. This is a fundamental misstatement of the structure of the the UK economy and its tax system. This is serious failing in basic competency. I regularly defend politicians I disagree with over missteps and oversights. On this occasion i think Emma Reynolds should consider her position.

This is weapons grade BS. Labour have done more damage to the British economy in 2 years than Brexit is supposed to have done in 10. The burden of taxation has risen by £100bn due to the budgets of this woman who altered her CV. People have paid with their jobs. #LabourOut
Two years on from the general election, the foundations of Britain’s economy have been strengthened. By successfully combining the radical and the credible - on devolution, Europe and AI - Labour has a chance to show government can once again be a force for good.

Maybe @UsdawUnion could put a bid in. Run it like the co-op. See how they get on.
I am deeply concerned that Poundland jobs are at risk here in constituency of #PaisleyRenfrewshireNorth in #Braehead with many constituents impacted. Poundland has filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators, putting 11,000 jobs at risk across more than 600 stores and distribution centres across the UK. I welcome PM Andy Burham's support for Poundland workers & like him, I question why the company's owners chose not to accept a viable solvent offer which @UsdawUnion say could have prevented this outcome. This situation was entirely predictable by @Poundland according to the Shop Workers Trade Union who have been monitoring the situation closely for some time. I have reached out to parliamentary colleagues to explore what options are available to assist and I hope to meet with USDAW trade union who represent Poundland workers to discuss the local issues in more detail.
