Activists and politicians promise us that if we follow them, we'll find ourselves (and more meaning in life). That's a terrible overpromise. I think there's a better way.

Great essay from my Director of Research @BryceFuemmeler.
College students are uniquely miserable, in no small part because they're too focused on themselves. The solution?
"These days university students neither stand in awe of great ideas nor worship the divine. But in returning to both pursuits, students will find what they seek, and they will be happy."

Campuses are burdened by a culture of contempt, but it doesn't have to be this way. In his new essay for @NationalAffairs, my research lead at Harvard @BryceFuemmeler shares how we can revivify the university by getting curious about ideas with which we disagree.
In the university’s most inspiring days, it proved to the world that persuasion could trump coercion, and that ideas with which we disagree could be celebrated.
What went wrong? And how can it thrive once again? I set out for answers in @NationalAffairs

In 1992 I was 12. My dad and I were in the Newark airport. I saw Joe Pesci and recognized him from HOME ALONE. I went up to him to ask for his autograph. Joe asked me who my favorite actor was. I said he was. He handed me a crisp $100 and said "That's the right answer, kid".
