⚠️ High to Very High Wildfire Risk Tuesday ⚠️
Good morning everyone,
Yes... we know we're talking about the wildfire risk again! But there's a very good reason for it.
Today's wildfire risk remains HIGH to VERY HIGH across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, and unfortunately it's not just a forecast on a map anymore. We've already seen several wildfires break out across Cornwall this summer, and that's several too many.
Although temperatures aren't as extreme as they were during the recent heatwave, the vegetation across much of Cornwall remains exceptionally dry after weeks of below-average rainfall. Heathland, moorland, woodland and even dry grass can ignite surprisingly quickly, especially when combined with a fresh breeze.
It doesn't take much to start a wildfire:
🔥 A discarded cigarette.
🔥 A disposable barbecue.
🔥 A campfire that isn't fully extinguished.
🔥 Sparks from machinery or vehicles parked on long, dry grass.
🔥 Even a piece of discarded glass can sometimes concentrate the sun's rays under the right conditions.
If you're heading out to enjoy Cornwall's countryside or coastline today, please help protect it:
Don't light fires or disposable barbecues.
Dispose of cigarettes safely; never throw them from a vehicle.
Avoid parking on dry grass.
Take all litter home with you.
If you spot a fire, move to a safe place and call 999 immediately.
We've all seen the devastating scenes from Spain, France and other parts of Europe this summer, where huge wildfires have destroyed thousands of hectares of land, forced communities to evacuate and had a devastating impact on wildlife. While Cornwall is very different, our landscapes can still burn rapidly when conditions are dry.
Let's all do our bit to keep Cornwall safe. A little extra care today could prevent the next wildfire.
Kind regards
KWT Dave.

Big congratulations to our own FF David Hales, who has recently completed his development assessment and earned his black diamonds! 👏
The black diamonds, presented here by SM Parkyn, are worn on the back of a firefighter's helmet and indicate the firefighter is fully competent.
We were lucky enough to spot something truly magical over our station tonight on this lovely clear evening! 🎅✨
However you’re spending your Christmas, we hope it’s filled with joy - and please stay safe.
