What does Vancouver need? Leaders who care about everyone who lives here & won’t prioritize private equity over people. I’m honoured to be the ‘26 @COPEVancouver mayoral candidate & promise to fight for affordable living, transparent government, & fund public services. Lets go!
I’ve never seen the kind of insubordination from a Sr bureaucrat to an elected official like I did tonight at the VSB ceremony by the Sec Treasurer. At issue: electing the chair & vice chair. In comparison, the Parks GM followed procedure with chair & vice chair elected no prob.

They do this to children with fares, imagine what they’re doing to children in schools. The violence against Blk children by the police is completely acceptable in Canada. The rules don’t exist to protect Blk children

Every Toronto resident should call or email their recently elected city councillor and express their outrage over this shocking incident. City hall needs to understand that people have had enough with the institutional racism at the TTC and the Toronto police.

A @TorontoPolice officer who cannot avoid breaking a child's arm to prevent $3.30 worth of alleged TTC fare evasion is unfit to do his job. This is not a scenario any society should tolerate.

When I was in high school in Calgary I missed the school bus before an exam & had to take the LRT. Mom was already gone to work & I had no $$. I got busted for fare evasion & decided to appeal the ticket. Judge threw out the fine after asking about my grades. Wtf are we becoming?

This is a completely fabricated, frothed up issue. Antisemitism in Canada, such as it is, is a result of Israel's genocide of Palestinians and Zionists' attacks on our civil liberties here in Canada.
The support for extremism and terrorism is completely among the Zionists. They are who support that.
Tafsik, an advocacy group aimed at stemming the tide of antisemitism, extremism and terrorism in Canada, is calling on the federal government to take urgent action to allow religious organizations to employ armed protection at their places of worship.

Appalling and scary. Striking workers shouldn’t have to worry about someone driving their car through their picket line.
I’m currently in Ontario but if you’re near Surrey, please head down to 3601 Nico Wynd Dr at 9am tomorrow to stand in solidarity with these workers as they fight for the fair deal they deserve.

Billions for AI data centres but apparently it is impossible for the government to have enough money to make housing affordable.
What a conundrum.
Housing won’t be affordable for decades. What can we do for young Canadians while they wait? theglobeandmail.com/investin…
Because our govt wont provide plenty of great public seniors hsg/nursing homes, home equity = retirement funding for many. Land value tax could be used to fund such housing, but for our hyper individualistic culture & hsg financialization. So instead its more homelessness.

If you want to understand why Africa is like this, just look at most of our male leaders.
This is why colonizers had to kill matriarchy in Africa. Because women leaders were more competent. They were accountable. You couldn't just bribe them to sell the whole village.
So what did colonizers do? They replaced them with greedy, corrupt men. Men they could control. And that system never left.
Look at the King of Eswatini.
His people don't have roads. They don't have hospitals. 70% of the country lives in poverty. Eswatini has the highest HIV rate on earth and people are dying of hunger.
And what is the King doing?
The man has 15 wives. He spent $24.4 million to buy 19 Rolls-Royces for them. 19! Delivered in trucks like he was sharing rice. In a country where people can't afford bread.
And that was not even enough. That same year, he bought 79 BMWs. Then weeks later, another 120 BMWs. Meanwhile he already had 20 Mercedes Maybachs and a private jet he bought for himself for his 50th birthday.
This is the mentality. Let the people suffer, let them die of AIDS and poverty, as long as the wives have Rolls-Royces.
This is the African male leadership we inherited. And until we change it, nothing will change.
I was a kid in the 70s & we had older family friends from Europe who survived WW2. I recall them telling my mom how upsetting fireworks & airshows were for them. Seeing the puppy we’re dog-sitting tremble tonight & I really dont get why we put people & pets through this.

I am in disbelief that after Javits Frimpong was shot in the stomach, he laid there on the concrete for 30 minutes b/c multiple people saw him, walked by and didn’t call 911.
He could’ve survived. So many people failed him and that’s a reflection of a “me first” community.

I agree. And a more clearer understanding of what “quality of life” exists for ppl with dementia and how we are working to improve it. I would much rather pour energy and efforts in making life enjoyable so that the directive isn’t needed

Wife of a long term dementia patient here - 👋
If Bruce had signed an advanced directive, would I have been left to make the decision on when to apply MAiD?
Even after 11 years, yesterday I saw him smile, laugh, interact and enjoy his meals while being non-mobile, incontinent and non verbal.
I can promise you, I would ignore any advanced directive. Yes, he is a different man with a different life now but subjectively and objectively he is comfortable and content. I would not believe this Bruce would want to stop living.
In this case, would the “state” step in to provide MAiD over my objections and experience? We are rushing to a set of really complex entanglements. So much room for harm.
As a cancer MD, here’s what terrifies me about advance MAiD requests.
A patient with dementia could be smiling, laughing and enjoying life.
But a document signed years earlier says it’s time to die.
Administer MAiD and risk criminal charges? Refuse and potentially face a College complaint from the family?
What an extraordinary position to put a physician in.

Happy Halloween!
But did you know that every zombie you see tonight walked out of a Haitian cane field?
Under French rule, the enslaved Africans of Saint-Domingue were worked to death so fast that the colony had to import tens of thousands of new captives every year just to replace the dead.
The one escape was death itself. They believed that when you died, your spirit crossed the water back to Africa, to a place they called lan Guinée.
In Haitian Creole, lan Guinée still means heaven. Suicide was so common that planters mutilated the bodies of those who killed themselves, to frighten the rest into believing a broken body could not make the journey home.
Out of that world came the zombi. Not a flesh-eater. Not a plague. A person whose soul had been stolen by a sorcerer, a bokor, so that the body went on laboring in the fields with no mind and no will and no death to release it. It was the fear underneath every other fear: that you could die and still be a slave. A
fter independence, Haiti wrote the fear into law. Article 246 of the penal code treats drugging a person into a death-like coma as attempted murder, and as murder if they are buried afterward.
In 1929 an American travel writer, William Seabrook, published The Magic Island, with a chapter about dead men working the cane fields of an American sugar company.
Three years later Hollywood released White Zombie, with Bela Lugosi running a mill staffed by the walking dead. From there the word was taken, the meaning emptied out, and the slave's nightmare became a costume sold in a plastic bag.
So when you see the zombies tonight, remember what one actually was. A man who was promised that death would carry him home, and who was told that even that could be taken from him.
