Today is Dimitrovden the Feast of St. Demetrius! 🇧🇬❄️
In Bulgarian tradition, this day marks the arrival of winter. Legend says the first snowflakes fall from the saint’s white beard, while St. George brings summer and St. Demetrius brings the cold.
A beloved name day for thousands of Dimitar, Mitko, Dimitrina and many more. Family gatherings, church services and centuries old folklore come alive.
Wishing everyone who celebrates a warm and joyful Dimitrovden! ❤️
Press freedom is a cornerstone of any democracy. We strongly condemn the use of violence against journalists. Journalists must be able to ask questions and do their work safely and without fear.
Free and independent media strengthen Bulgaria and every open society.
What’s the highest peak in the Balkans?
Most people guess Mount Olympus… but it’s actually Musala in Bulgaria’s Rila Mountains.
It rises to 2,925 metres the roof of the Balkans and Bulgaria’s highest summit.
On a clear day you can see ranges across the peninsula from the top.
Have you been, or is it on your list?

Happy Independence Day, Bulgaria! 🇧🇬
On 22 September 1908, in Veliko Tarnovo, we proclaimed our full independence and took our rightful place among the sovereign nations of Europe.
Today we celebrate 118 years of freedom, unity and national pride.
From Sofia to Veliko Tarnovo, from the Black Sea to the mountains, let’s celebrate together!
Long live free and independent Bulgaria! 🇧🇬❤️
