Something to monitor following JMU's announcement to join the American conference:
In Billy Napier's contract, it adds that if JMU joins a new conference during his contract, Napier and the university "shall engage in a good-faith review and negotiation" for the following:
- Napier's annual compensation structure
- Staff salary pools (assistants & support staff)
- Operating budget
- NIL amounts to be commensurate with peer institutions within the new conference.

The entrance fee that JMU is paying to the American is $23 million, per ESPN sources. JMU will get an American TV/postseason/NCAA share that’s in line with the recent additions to the league. The entry fee and the expected $5 million departure fee from Sun Belt is all privately raised money.
