My girlfriend always said her male best friend was basically a brother to her, so she expected me to be completely fine with their friendship.
At first, I was.
He came over to our apartment, ate dinner with us, and sometimes called her late at night to talk through his problems. She even pushed me to spend time with him because she wanted us to be comfortable around each other.
I tried. We started watching football, trading jokes, and occasionally grabbing something to eat when my girlfriend was busy.
Everything was fine until I became friends with a female coworker.
We worked on the same projects, took lunch together pretty often, and sometimes texted about work after hours. There was nothing romantic going on, but my girlfriend noticed we were becoming friends and immediately got uncomfortable.
She began asking why I needed to talk to another woman so much. One night, she picked up my phone, saw a message from my coworker thanking me for helping with her presentation, and demanded to know what was happening between us.
I explained the situation, but she still accused me of disrespecting our relationship....

My manager called me into his office on a Monday morning and asked me a question I never expected to hear at work.
“Has my wife ever mentioned me to you?”
I froze.
His wife worked in another department. We occasionally ate lunch together, but we weren’t close enough for personal conversations.
“Why are you asking?” I said.
He shut the office door.
“Because I think she’s sleeping with someone at this company.”
Then he asked whether I had noticed her leaving work late, receiving calls, or meeting anyone after hours.
I told him I wasn’t comfortable discussing his marriage.
He smiled.
“I’m not asking you to investigate. I’m asking you as someone I trust.”
Two days later, his wife approached me in the parking garage.
She looked exhausted.
“Did my husband speak to you about me?”

My boss told me to delete my CCTV footage. I told him I already sent it to my email.
I work night shift as a security guard. $80 a month.
Last week around 2 AM, I saw my boss on CCTV. He was not alone. He was with my wife's car.
I have been married 2 years. My wife works day shift in the same company as my boss. Different department.
That night, I watched CCTV: My boss's car came in 11:47 PM. My wife's car came in 11:52 PM. Both went into his office. Lights off.
They came out 1:13 AM. 1 hour 21 minutes.
I didn't sleep that night. I came home 6 AM. My wife was cooking, smiling, said "How was night shift?"

HR told me never to open an email from the company’s legal department. Then one arrived with my name in the subject line.
I’d worked at the company for six years, and I’d never been in trouble. So when an email appeared at 9:06 a.m. titled “Confidential: Investigation Involving [My Name],” my stomach dropped.
I remembered HR’s warning from three months earlier.
“If legal ever contacts you directly, notify us first. Don’t open anything.”
But why would the legal department be investigating me?

Applicant: “My daughter is graduating from college. She’s been asking me to come for two years.”
Visa Officer: “How long do you plan to stay?”
Applicant: “Ten days. I have a business to return to.”
Visa Officer: “Who is paying for the trip?”
Applicant: “I am.”
Visa Officer: “Your daughter sent you money last month. What was that for?”
Applicant: “She helped me pay for the flight.”
Visa Officer: “You just said you’re paying for the trip.”
Applicant: “I am paying for the hotel and my other expenses. She offered to help with the ticket.”
The officer looked at the documents again.
Visa Officer: “If your daughter can afford to help you travel, why can’t she pay for the entire trip?”
Applicant: “Because I didn’t raise her to be responsible for every expense I have.”
