🚨Will the winds of change blow through the county leagues in Cork? The County CCC has put forward the following proposals for consideration in relation to county league formats for 2027/28. *** 🔴 PROPOSAL 1 The CCC recognises the challenges faced by dual clubs in playing on 18 consecutive weekends. If approved, the following measures would be introduced with immediate effect for 2027. County leagues would commence one week earlier. A break week would be introduced on the May bank holiday weekend. The current 30-day timeframe for the re-fixture of games would be extended to 60 days (or the county league deadline, whichever comes first). *** 🔴 PROPOSAL 2 The following options will be considered in respect of the number of League rounds/games for 2028. If the CCC proposal (Option B) is not accepted by the floor, then a vote will follow on the three options, based on proportional representation. OPTION A - Status Quo (10 teams - 9 games) All teams would continue to play nine games in both hurling and football in the county leagues, Divisions 1 to 7. If adopted, the current numbers would remain in place for the 2027 and 2028 county leagues. OPTION B - County CCC Proposal (9 teams - 8 games) The number of county league games would be reduced from nine games to eight games in both hurling and football. Where possible, clubs with both hurling and football teams in the county leagues would receive priority in not receiving a 'bye' in Rounds 1 and 2. If adopted along with Proposal 1 above, it would lead to three free weekends in the programme. If adopted, the County CCC would organise the 2027 league format in order to lead to the reduced numbers in league divisions for the 2028 county leagues. OPTION C - Newcestown Proposal (8 teams - 7 games) The number of county league games would be reduced from nine games to seven games in both hurling and football. If adopted along with Proposal 1 above, it would lead to five free weekends in the programme. If adopted, the County CCC would organise the 2027 league format in order to lead to the reduced numbers in league divisions for the 2028 county leagues.
