Big shout-out to the African Group of Negotiators 👏 - a sharp, powerful intervention that put tripling adaptation finance front and centre in the Global Goal on Adaptation . As they rightly said, silence on adaptation finance sends the wrong message. 🌍 #GGA #AdaptationFinance

⚠️New analysis ⚠️
20 Big Banks that attended COP30 financed $409 billion in fossil fuels in 2024 — that's nearly half of global bank fossil fuel finance.
👉These fossil fuel financiers are also bankrolling war, genocide, and human rights atrocities.

DAY 3 recap, what to expect on Day 4 in Bonn
It’s the fourth day at the Bonn Climate Conference in Germany and, already, the rubber is starting to meet the road. Difficult but vital conversations about the future of humanity and the planet 🌍 are happening 🧵

Trillions, not billions. Grants, not loans.
The message from #SB64 was clear: frontline communities don't need more promises—they need finance. Enough of the politicking. Without finance, there can be no implementation. Without implementation, there can be no #climate justice.

🌱SHIFT THE MONEY IN AGRICULTURE
Agriculture finance must support agroecology & a just transition in food systems.
Invest in sustainable agriculture, agroforestry & community-led approaches especially for smallholders, fisherfolk & pastoralists.
🌍 Just transition now.

📢PAY UP FOR CLIMATE FINANCE
Climate finance is not charity—it’s an obligation.
Communities in the Global South are already facing floods, heat and loss of livelihoods. What’s needed is public, grant-based finance not more debt, not private profit.
Global North: Pay Up.

🚨 Locked out before the talks even begin.
The latest edition of ECO newspaper highlights how visa denials, rejected applications, and unavailable appointments are preventing African delegates from participating in the Bonn Climate Talks.
Accreditation means nothing if delegates can't enter the country.
CAN Africa is deeply concerned that these systemic barriers are excluding frontline communities—those most affected by the climate crisis—from the decisions that shape their future.
Climate justice requires meaningful participation.

Something deeply troubling is happening here in Bonn at #SB64 — and we need to talk about it. A thread on the systematic shrinking of civic space at climate negotiations. 🧵
For 30 years, @CANIntl has held a daily 11:30am press conference throughout UN climate talks. Every single day. Rain or shine. It's how over 2,500 civil society organisations share a collective assessment of what's actually happening inside these rooms.

Rising tides in the Sundarbans are erasing a Bonbibi temple and with it, faith, memory, belonging.
As the UNGA considers the ICJ climate ruling, there’s hope these non-economic losses are finally seen.

Sundarbans - When Sacred Spaces Disappear
In the Sundarbans, rising tides are erasing more than land-they’re erasing culture, faith & belonging. This is non-economic loss & damage.
On May 20, the UNGA must act.
