It was a privilege to speak at @CART_SF’s rally last week. @SFDefender is a strong CART proponent because we see too often the harm that police can cause unhoused and vulnerable members of our community, many of whom are our clients. 1/

Energized by all the folks who turned out today to fund @CART_SF as a behavioral health response to non-emergency 911 & 311 calls about homelessness.

On May 5, 2023 the Department of Emergency Management (DEM) used funding allocated by the Board of Supervisors for the stakeholder designed Compassionate Alternative Response Team and instead awarded funding to Urban Alchemy for a program called Community Response Team (CRT).
Join us next Tuesday at noon on the steps of City Hall as we urge city officials to fund CART. #fundCART

It's been two years and CART has yet to be funded or implemented. Ask the Mayor and Board of Supervisors to fully fund this effective solution.
What can you do now?

UPDATE: the DA confirms that Banko was unarmed and the BOS president believes he had $14 worth of candy on him when he was murdered. But the DA refuses to press charges bc the guard thought his life was in danger?? From @NualaBishari and @MLNow

There has been more public grieving in this city for the loss of a Nordstroms than the murder on behalf of a corporation of this black, trans, houseless young person. THATS what’s wrong with San Francisco. #BankoBrown @YoungWomenFree @sfchronicle @sfstandard – at San Francisco, CA

After years of crony capitalism w/ Willie Brown @LondonBreed & @MrCleanSF, Lena Miller (white but identifying as being Black like Rachel Dolezal) was also given $ meant for @CART_SF despite @UrbanAlchemyUA's rep for abuse & violence against unhoused folks.

Replying to @CART_SF
UA is unlicensed security guards playing unlicensed cops sold as unlicensed social workers.
The City should simply hire actual social workers directly, not hand out crony no-bid contracts for knock-offs.
