📰  “Open Fan engine technology aims for epic efficiency. It also has major durability potential.” Through the RISE technology demonstration program, CFM is advancing the development of its revolutionary Open Fan architecture, targeting up to 20% greater fuel efficiency compared with today’s most advanced engines. Designed with both performance and durability in mind, the Open Fan architecture combines innovative aerodynamics, adaptive cycle capability, as well as advanced materials to help reduce dust ingestion and enhance engine life, even in the most demanding operating environments. CFM teams continue to mature the technologies that could help power the next generation of commercial aviation. With approximately 500 test campaigns completed, including 300 hours of Open Fan blade testing in a wind tunnel at @onera_fr , and 3,000 endurance cycles run with high-pressure turbine airfoils , we are advancing technologies for ground and flight tests on Airbus A380 this decade.
