College Golf Fellowship

One last dispatch from the Washington Road Starbucks. The world has departed Augusta and the store is empty, illustrating an important point that Scottie made last night. "I feel like playing professional golf is an endlessly not-satisfying career," he said. "Blasphemy!" some may say. But he's right. If he measured himself by his golf scores, then he would need to earn his happiness and satisfaction EVERY. SINGLE. WEEK. "It's not a very satisfying sport because I'm supposed to tee it up again on Thursday," he said. "Back to the grind pretty quick." Few sports have more inherent variance than golf. Basing your happiness on your score is choosing to place yourself on a rollercoaster. Scottie Scheffler decided to step off the roller-coaster, trust that Jesus Christ paid the penalty for his sins by dying on the cross and, because of that, Scottie Scheffler can enjoy God and glorify Him forever, regardless what happens on or off the golf course. "I was sitting around with my buddies this morning," Scheffler said Sunday evening. "I was a bit overwhelmed. I told them, I wish I didn't want to win as badly as I do. I think it would make the mornings easier. "But I love winning. I hate losing. I really do. And when you're here in the biggest moments, when I'm sitting there with the lead on Sunday, I really, really want to win badly. And my buddies told me this morning, my victory was secure on the cross. And that's a pretty special feeling to know that I'm secure for forever and it doesn't matter if I win this tournament or lose this tournament. My identity is secure for forever." That is true freedom.
