“Vault 100 firms that support the fossil fuel industry are as culpable as the industry itself for the climate chaos that we are witnessing,” said Catherine Rocchi, a third year Stanford Law School student. Change my mind. news.bloomberglaw.com/enviro…

REPOST FROM @AKPIRG . What is digital equity, what is in Alaska's Digital Equity Plan, and what can YOU do to help make digital equity a reality in Alaska? . The Alaska Broadband Office recently released their draft Digital Equity Plan for the state of Alaska, which outlines how the state will distribute the billions of dollars in federal funding to achieve digital equity in our state. . The digital divide in Alaska is dramatic. Alaska ranks 51st in BroadbandNow’s annual rankings internet coverage, speed and availability, and 80% of Alaskans cannot get broadband at an affordable price ($60/month or less excluding promotions and government programs). In a world where access to internet is increasingly necessary to navigate education, health care, and social connection, this disparity is unacceptable and must be corrected. . The Digital Equity Plan affirms that the state of Alaska has a responsibility to take action to protect your Digital Equity Rights. We have to hold them accountable to this. . Share this post with your community to raise awareness around our RIGHTS to affordable, safe, reliable, and accessible internet! Researchers just found that gas stoves are responsible for 12.7% of childhood asthma cases. Recently I read dozens of studies about gas stoves and indoor air quality. I also installed monitors in our home and ran my own tests. Here's what I learned.

Our ideas about lawyers' complicity in the climate crisis would have been controversial just a few years ago. It feels good to see an institution like @ABAesq acknowledge that moral accountability has entered the mainstream.

Anchorage may soon join dozens of other cities that have eliminated or loosened policies requiring off-street parking for new developments, in order to increase affordable housing, curb development costs and rein in urban sprawl. adn.com/alaska-news/anchorag…

Generous aid and financial incentives to pursue public interest careers can pressure firms to offer more ethically compelling work to their associates. Law schools should also narrow the gap between the support available public interest students and those entering firms. (5/6)

Every fraction of a degree matters. Creating a legal profession that stands on the right side of history will require institutions—and the individuals at the heads of those institutions—to buck financial incentives and settled practices in favor of doing the right thing. (6/6)

If you want to understand how the Supreme Court rules on politics rather than the law look no further than the arena of Federal Indian Law. Today #SCOTUS changed who has criminal jurisdiction on over 300 reservations not based on precedent or even the facts on the ground…

This #SCOTUS opinion in #CastroHuerta is an act of conquest. Full stop. The right and power of tribes to rule themselves is being dismissed in favor of state power. Tribes are…I can’t even write it…part of states.

Against hundreds of years of congressional action, against solid #SCOTUS precedent, and hundreds of years of history, the Supreme Court held today that states have jurisdiction over certain crimes in Indian Country by judicial fiat. A devastating result for our democracy.

One of my favorite just-graduated JDs, @CHRocchi, just published her first academic publication on the topic of fossil fuel firms strategically playing both sides of the argument in the climate regulatory conversation. Check it out!

Shocker to no one: the current federal lobbying disclosure regime does not prevent fossil fuel companies from misrepresenting their interests to policymakers and the public. Industry associations like @chambercommerce and @ShopFloorNAM are particularly opaque and damaging.

Recent developments in First Amendment jurisprudence and the hydraulic nature of money in politics present obstacles to lobbying reform. But Congress can protect itself by strengthening institutional sources of policy information.
