LEFT IN LIMBO: A year-long @WLBT investigation finds the @VicksburgPD failed to send 121+ felony cases to the DA's office, leaving cases stalled & families without justice.
City officials only acknowledged the problem after we started digging.
A thread. /1
“United States” is misspelled on an official White House document under the President’s signature.
The document lays out a “super intelligence” accord on how AI protocols should be implemented.
THREAD: Gov. Tate Reeves says building up Capitol Police helped change the trajectory of Jackson.
A WLBT analysis finds that as Capitol Police's powers & district grew, the CCID flipped from plurality-Black to plurality-white, in a city that's roughly 80% Black. /1
When the State of Mississippi created the Capitol Complex Improvement District, we knew the first step to long term recovery for the city of Jackson was a return to an understanding of law and order. So we began by building the Capitol Police.
It was not easy.
It was not without risk.
It was not without litigation.
Some of our police officers were put in incredibly dangerous situations. They responded in a manner consistent with protecting the citizens of Jackson and the surrounding areas.
And they helped change the trajectory of our state’s capital city.
I appreciate Chief Bo Luckey. I appreciate the men and women of Capitol Police.
I didn’t hear the entirety of the testimony in this case, and I don’t know why the AG chose to prosecute…
But our men and women in uniform deserve our utmost respect. I back the blue. Mississippi backs the blue.
And I will continue to pray daily for our officers that sacrifice to keep us safe!!
The biggest question here, for residents, lawmakers and the governor, is whether Capitol Police are helping to bring crime down. If we had granular crime stats from both agencies before and after 2021, we could get much closer to an answer.

BREAKING: @LynnFitchAG's office won't retry Michael Rhinewalt for manslaughter in Jaylen Lewis' killing.
"In the case of a tie, the benefit of the doubt goes to our law enforcement officers..."
Rhinewalt's aggravated assault trial in another shooting case begins next month.
BREAKING: Hinds County jury finds former Capitol Police officer Steven Frederick not guilty of manslaughter in the 2022 shooting death of Jaylen Lewis. They could not reach a verdict for Michael Rhinewalt, the officer who fired the fatal shot that night.
Next, he compared a traffic stop to being able to defend yourself during a home invasion, saying jurors wouldn't be able to shoot the perp.
Finally, he said "what's really unreasonable is to send a message to the police that they can't do their job."
That got an objection, too.
Gilbert's closing also resulted in 3 objections.
He said Rhinewalt did his job the way MS taught him to do it. "And now the state wants you to send him to prison for doing what they taught him the way they taught him..."
That appears to be arguing sentencing during a trial.
Gilbert argued it was reasonable to expect that since Lewis backed up and struck one vehicle, he might strike the officers.
He also said Rhinewalt was directly in front of the vehicle when he fired the fatal shot into Lewis' head.
