Every generation is told it must give up a little freedom to stay safe Every generation ends up with less freedom Liberty isn’t protected by good intentions. It’s protected by people willing to defend it Do you agree? 👇

Before economic growth and the modern free market system — what was life really like? @PaulMeany2 sits down with @chellivia, author of "The Grim Old Days," to explore the preindustrial past. ow.ly/CAWi5101TfP

Apparently Reform believes in capitalism right up until the market does something they don’t like
If what’s happening to Poundland was happening to Waitrose, Fraser and the Tory Party would be in Parliament Square with pitchforks. They just don’t get it. 12,000 jobs are at stake. 600 stores. I have received hundreds of messages from angry and scared workers. And *there is an offer* on the table. Poundland doesn’t have to go under. The Government should be doing everything it can to keep Poundland alive.

Here’s a thing. We often get posts and messages saying we should support X or Y. But the people concerned about the free speech of X or Y do not support the free speech of A or B who they disagree with. They just support free speech for ME (and mine). But you must support free speech, no ifs or buts, if you really support free speech, sign here: afaf.org.uk/afaf-statement/

For over a year, playing any musical instrument has been banned in the centre of Birmingham. The on-the-spot fine is about to go up to £500. We are gathering to protest against this ban, outside the Rotunda from 2pm on Wednesday 4 November. There will be some busking and some short speeches. The event is organised by Campaign for Freedom in Everyday Life and Keep Streets Live Please share as widely as possible! Link in the comments...

The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. Withdraw your sanction.

The internet should be a place for free speech and the free exchange of ideas
Make no mistake: this is an all-out assault on our liberal democracy. Fascism in Britain won't arrive with goosesteps down the high street - but with the silent murder of a free internet.

The responses are overwhemingly negative but they are still ploughing through with it. This is not about protecting children and it won't do that. It is about state surveillance and control. This will kill off online annoyminty and privacy.
🚨 NEW: The age-check methods for Brits to access social media from March have been announced 1. Photo ID matching (passport against a live photo) 2. Banking checks 3. Digital ID services 4. Facial age estimation (additional check if needed)

Once again, the government is using child safety as an excuse to push more ID checks and surveillance
Social media users may be required to have photo ID to prove their age when Labour’s ban for under-16s comes into force next spring, Ofcom has said. The regulator said that current facial age checks used widely by the social media platforms were not accurate enough to confirm whether a child was over 16⤵️ telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/10…

This is the French paradox: a state that is heavily involved in the economy, but whose authority too often falls short when it comes to enforcing the law.

The economy IS people! People making exchanges & living better lives.
just heard someone say "people are more important than the economy" and it occurred to me that some people genuinely believe that others care about the economy because they like numbers going up and not because it drives living standards for the population
