Operation Nite Shade continues to make meaningful progress in disrupting criminal behavior in the Sugar Creek Road and Reagan Drive corridor. Our North Tryon Division's targeted efforts to address quality of life concerns along the corridor have significantly reduced victimization and enhanced public safety in the area. Their efforts in the month of September led to:
· 56 traffic stops
· 27 arrests
· 7 illegal firearms seized
"We stand on your shoulders. You paved the way for us. There's no way I could be a police officer, there's no way I could have been elevated to the Chief of Police without your support, without you being there, without y'all leading the way for us. So, I feel it is imperative, it is important that we acknowledge and that we always look after our senior population."
Our officers recently had a wonderful time connecting with local seniors at our Golden Population Luncheon. It was a great day of building relationships, showing love and celebrating the incredible seniors in our community!

In honor of Wear Purple Day, our Domestic Violence Unit, along with members from across the department, proudly wore purple this past Thursday to raise awareness and stand with survivors in our community.
We stand united against domestic violence. To every survivor: we see you, we support you, and we remain firmly committed to your safety. Together, we can build a safer, stronger Charlotte for all.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in locating anyone who may have dash‑camera footage of the fatal collision that occurred on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at approximately 10:42 a.m., near 2821 Pineville‑Matthews Road. If you have any camera footage, please contact Detective K. Sessoms at 704‑432‑2169, ext. 3. You can also provide information through @CLTCrimeStopper at 704‑334‑1600.
During today’s Third Quarter Public Safety Briefing, Chief Patterson addressed the recent allegations of misconduct involving several CMPD officers. We want to reiterate our commitment to accountability, transparency, and the standards our community deserves.
All officers involved were cited for termination, and three have resigned to date. The remaining cases will go before the Civil Service Board, which has the sole authority to terminate sworn members of the department.
CMPD has reviewed the officers’ body-worn camera footage, examined traffic-stop data, and checked for records of external complaints. At this time, these reviews have not identified evidence of related misconduct. Chief Patterson has also asked our federal partners to examine the case for potential civil rights violations. Additionally, CMPD will pursue revocation of the officers’ North Carolina law enforcement certifications through the state, which could prevent them from serving as law enforcement officers in the future.
Maintaining public trust requires more than words. It requires us to investigate thoroughly, be candid about what we find, share what we can within the law, and take meaningful action. That is our responsibility to this community, and it is one we take seriously.
We also recognize how unfortunate it is that the actions of a few individuals have cast a shadow over the exceptional work performed every day by the more than 1,600 officers who serve this community with honor and integrity every day. Their dedication should not be overshadowed by the misconduct of others. Protecting this department's integrity means confronting misconduct directly, holding people accountable, and addressing these matters openly.
The actions of a few must not define this department. We remain committed to upholding the standards our community expects and deserves and earning Charlotte’s trust through our actions every day.
