In a new study we found that high levels of 25(OH)D in early childhood were associated with a reduced risk of AD, allergy, asthma exacerbations and infections. Our findings suggest vitamin D as an important micronutrient in early childhood.

David Horner MD @DavidHo35999694 presents his study from the COPSAC2010 cohort, which showed that supplementation with fish oil in pregnant women reduced the risk of gastroenteritis (vomiting/diarrhea) for their children.
🎥Parisa Mohammadzadeh MD and Julie Rosenberg MD, PhD students at COPSAC and @CNSR_cph, tell us about their paper describing the COPSYCH study of neurodevelopmental disorders, like ADHD and autism, at age 10 in the COPSAC2010 cohort.

But we do find some association with gene expression in nasal epithelial cells, suggesting that nasal epithelial cells might be more of a relevant tissue to study air pollution than the blood [11/12]
We did not observe strong associations between prenatal air pollution exposure and DNA methylation markers, this is probably due to the many methylation sites tested and the relatively limited sample size, thus we cannot rule out mediation through DNA methylation [9/12]
We also found that prenatal exposure to ambient air pollution was associated with pro-inflammatory cytokines measured in blood obtained from the children at 6 months of age, particularly increased levels of CXCL8 and decreased levels of IL-1β [7/12]
We found significant associations between prenatal air pollution exposure and an airway immune profile at age 4 w. Changes were particularly seen for Type 2 immune mediators in the direction of increased levels of IL-13, IL-4 and IL-5 and reduced levels of CCL22 and CCL26 [6/12]
We are very happy to share our latest work on prenatal air pollution and its effects on immune mediators, asthma and allergy

A 🧶 on the key points [1/12]
It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of Hans Bisgaard who died suddenly and unexpectedly two weeks ago. Hans will be missed by all of us. He was a pioneer within his field, a mentor for many and a visionary researcher. 1/2
