Survival matters. Quality of life matters too. During Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, conversations often focus on early detection and treatment. But there is another important conversation that deserves attention: life after prostate cancer. Many men experience changes in urinary and sexual function following treatment, yet these topics can be difficult to discuss openly. Increasing awareness means looking at the whole patient experience, not only cancer outcomes, but also the physical, emotional, and relationship impacts that may follow. This September, let's continue to encourage honest dialogue between patients, partners, and healthcare professionals about all aspects of prostate cancer care, including erectile dysfunction and recovery after treatment. As we mark World Sexual Health Day today, it is an important opportunity to raise awareness of erectile dysfunction, which can significantly impact quality of life and is still too often surrounded by stigma and silence. In Europe, up to 30% of men suffer from moderate to severe erectile dysfunction. [1] Erectile dysfunction is the consistent inability to sustain an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse. That can be not getting an erection at all, getting an erection inconsistently, or getting an erection that doesn’t stay hard enough for sex. Biofilm formation and mineral encrustation are known to compromise stent safety. In a prospective randomized multicenter study conducted across four European centers, silicone hydro-coated stents, such as ImaJin® Hydro, demonstrated: • 36% less mineral encrustation* • 25% less biofilm formation* These findings were measured after a three-week dwell time, in comparison with standard polyurethane stents.
