New post on the '#Scientific #Outreach' section of our website 🙃 wp.unil.ch/crag/scientific-o… We have made a short video about our #fieldwork on the #Otemma #glacier, trying to explain with simple words how our #drone-based #GPR system works : youtu.be/tqcc_Q2wwJk?si=YpFs…

Otemma acquisition 2/3 of this summer ✅ After some very cold days, the group came back with tons of data: 🛸drone GPR, 📷photogrammetry, 🧊ice drilling, 📷installation of 2 time-lapse cameras, 🌊dye tracing. And if you can't survey due to snowfall, why not build a snowman! ⛄️

With our drone-based GPR system, depending on the field site, helicopter lifts are not mandatory to acquire high-density 3D datasets... as long as you have enough strong friends motivated to carry (very) heavy bags! 📌 Findelen glacier 1-2 : April 2023 3-4 : July 2023

Summer #fieldwork season has finally started for us! 🎉 Last week we went to Otemma #glacier for the first #GPR campaign of the season. Time to process the data now before we go back in August to repeat the survey. 🗻 @RaczGabriela @Bastien_Ruols @JohannaKlahold @ISTE_UNIL

First visit to Otemma Glacier this summer. Shocked by the extent of glacier retreat, and it's still early in the season...

Last week, some of us took part into the training course for glaciated terrain organised by the SPI on the Moiry glacier. Hazard assessment, crevasse rescue, health and safety issues... we now feel better prepared for the field season starting soon :) Thank you @SwissPolar !

Last month, we took part into the students' exploration #geophysics camp. Nothing to do with ice this time... Objective: study the #archaeological site of Avenches, capital of the Helvetii in Roman times. Some pictures/data: 1 - #Magnetism 2 - #Gravimetry 3 - #GPR 4 - #Ohm-Mapper

Fast Radar-On-Glaciers Simulations (FROGS - 🐸🐸🐸) is our open-source package to model GPR data on glaciers. It is now available as a Matlab package or a python/C++ package: github.com/jhunziker/ Here is an example for the Otemma glacier (Switzerland). #GPR #Radar #glaciers

On 24/04, James Irving will be talking at the @EGU_GI GI5.4 session. Is your 3D #GPR dataset aliased by a survey line spacing much larger than the trace density along the lines? It is now possible to overcome this issue using multiple-point geostatistics (MPS) simulation! #EGU23

On 28/04, group member @Bastien_Ruols will have a PICO presentation ready for the @EGU_CR CR2.2 session. Interested into seing what our newly developed #drone-based #GPR system is able to do on alpine glaciers? Then please don't hesitate to pop into him there! #EGU23
