The CTBTO’s Integrated Field Exercise (#IFE26) has moved into the field operations in Namibia. Within the fictional scenario, teams are laying the groundwork for the start of the exercise inspection activities in the field: from the arrival at the Point of Entry procedures to negotiations, equipment check and transport, and establishing the Base of Operations.
Our thanks to Namibia for hosting, actively participating and helping make this international exercise possible.

With the certification of infrasound station IS54 at Palmer Station, Antarctica, the United States has completed its segment of the International Monitoring System (IMS). Reaching this point in one of the most remote and unforgiving places on Earth was no small undertaking, and we owe a great deal to the US, @doddtra and @uafairbanks for seeing it through.

CTBT entry into force will give us the option of short-notice on-site inspx. Until the U.S. and others ratify, we shld work cooperatively on new technical confidence building measures to ensure any n--experiments at fmr. U.S., Chinese, and Russian test sites remain subcritical 2/

Note to @NNSANews and @NNSAWilliams: addtl. exps. to enhance natl. capabilities to detect illicit n-explosions that violate the CTBT are important. But detecting & deterring n-tests requires intl. cooperation, the capabilities of the CTBTO and ultimately CTBT entry into force 1/
If foreign countries test in secret, we will know.
This week, NNSA successfully conducted a non-nuclear experiment that enhances our ability to detect global explosions.
The goal? Keeping the U.S. one step ahead. 🇺🇸

"Trump, Xi, Putin Failing to Tackle the Nuclear Threat" in Arms Control Today. Trump talks of his desire for "denuclearization." But saying something and doing it are not the same. To jumpstart disarmament diplomacy more ambitious concepts must be pursued: armscontrol.org/act/2026-10/…
One Treaty. One Goal. Zero Tests. 30 years ago, States came together with a shared ambition: to end nuclear test explosions.
This Tuesday in Vienna, #CTBTO Executive Secretary @DrRobFloyd marked the 30th anniversary of the #CTBT alongside @MFA_Austria Minister @BMeinl, Filip Worotynski representing Mayor @BgmLudwig of @stadt_wien and @iaeaorg’s Director General @rafaelmgrossi at the Rathaus, at an event generously supported by 🇦🇺, 🇦🇹 and 🇰🇿.
The message is clear: the Treaty remains a cornerstone of the global non-proliferation and disarmament architecture, and its mission is more urgent and relevant than ever.

30 years ago today, the UN General Assembly endorsed the CTBT, perhaps the most successful in arms control history by a wide 158-3 margin. Today, the dangerous era of nuclear testing is over but we need to defend the treaty. Read more about it @nytimes ow.ly/SNAT50ZLRUf
Over the last two weeks, 17 experts from developing States Signatories - the highest-ever number of Technical Experts Support Programme (TESP) participants attending a Working Group B (WGB) session in person - participated in WGB-67 thanks to generous EU (@euunvie) support. They joined the opening plenary, expert group meetings and technical discussions; visited #CTBTO monitoring facilities in Vienna; and met Acting WGB Chair Professor Läslo Evers.
