One of the first "outrageous" claims I saw as Jason Arday's media hounding unfolded was that he ran 30 marathons in 35 days! Wow! What a thing to claim! And the newspapers all suggested there was no evidence he actually did it. Well, they clearly didn't look very hard 🙄 🧵 1/26

After the death of Jason Arday, Will Self asks what happens when newspapers, platforms, editors and audiences become components in a machine nobody admits to controlling. The public interest is not the same thing as the public being interested.

For the attention of all readers but particularly those in the USA'S culture wars Britain DOES NOT HAVE AFFIRMATIVE ACTION. I repeat: Britain DOES NOT HAVE AFFIRMATIVE ACTION. (It probably should. But it doesn't) "EDI" which you call 'DEI' has NO legal force.

I didn't go after him. And I can assure you, I have gone after pleny of those academic elites in my day. Your nasty prejudices are exactly the sort of divisive attitudes that made any serious holding to account of elites - whoever they are - such a toxic minefield

If your immediate reaction to a man’s death is to try to use it to make a political point and further your own argument, whatever that argument is, take a breath and don’t. Contrary to popular belief not everything has to be a political football and we don’t have to have a partisan “hot take” on everything, especially not something as tragic as this.

Labour, Tories, Lib Dems and Greens: I demand you stand down in Clacton. I will be a unity candidate and pledge to build at least one affordable house. Nigel Farage says he wants The People versus the Establishment. So be it. Leave him to me.

🔥 Superb article De Montfort was meant to be an “anchor institution” and “civic university” working for the “benefit of local people and the prosperity of our places”. But its executives have raided it and in 2-3 years claimed £278K in their own luxury expenses. centralbylines.co.uk/news/ed…

Anyone wondered why #BBC current affairs programs only have people on who are middle class and/or from London its because they wont pay ordinary people for their time/expertise. After negotiating my expenses for 2 things (I travelled from Notts) I'm waiting for £80 2 months +

I'm asking a serious question here .@PoliceScotland who has put this together and where is your evidence infact how have you even come to this conclusion that poor white working class men have a 'hate monster' I'm asking this has an academic as Dr Mckenzie.
Poor white working class boys & men likely to have a 'hate monster' because of their 'white male entitlement' nothing to do with poverty & hopelessness - poor white working class boys & men think they are shite not entitled. Entitlement belongs somewhere else not here

In case this wasn’t sufficiently clear after almost 15 years of austerity: allowing councils to sell assets *will not* help addressing the huge crisis #localgov is going through - it will just make it worse.

Enough. Local government needs a long term plan for recovery, reset and renewal. Plugging funding gaps is a short term fix, our whole system of local resourcing needs a complete overhaul. My new @themjcouk column… bit.ly/3uG01l6
