Jimmy Stewart had an Oscar on his shelf when he walked away from Hollywood to fly bombers over Germany.
He came home carrying the war with him. Then he played George Bailey.

Rev War Tales
Flag of No Truce
6 November 1781, Gowen’s Fort, South Carolina. The garrison surrenders on a promise of safety. The promise does not hold. Gowen’s Fort was a wooden station on the Blackstock Road, packed with upcountry families who had fled Bates’s raids. Captain William Bates arrived with Loyalists and Chickamauga warriors. The defenders were short on powder. He offered quarter if they opened the gates. They opened them. What followed, as local histories tell it, was a slaughter of those inside. Combatants and civilians were killed. Some were scalped. Only a few names are remembered among the living. No tidy British return confirms the count. The settlers' story is simple and ugly. A white flag bought the fort. It did not buy the lives. #RevWarTal

Rev War Tales
Big Win for Little Turtle
5 November 1780, near Kekionga (Fort Wayne, Indiana). Miami warriors under Little Turtle destroyed Augustin Mottin de La Balme’s raid. The former Continental cavalry inspector was killed. La Balme had served as Inspector of Cavalry in 1777 and had resigned rather than serve under Casimir Pulaski. In 1780, he raised about a hundred Canadian and French volunteers, marched under a French flag, and sacked the British-Miami post at Kekionga on his way toward Detroit. He left a small guard and pushed on toward the Eel River. Miami hunters retaking Kekionga wiped out the guard. Little Turtle struck the main column at dawn on 5 November. La Balme’s men tried to hold the riverbank. He and some thirty or forty of his command died. A few escaped. The fight made Little Turtle’s name on the frontier. Detroit remained British. Little Turtle became the Miami commander the United States would meet again in the next war for the Ohio country.
