The weather may be changing but the threat of wildfire remains.👇
Don’t let cooler weather fool you. 🍂 Fall has historically brought some of California’s largest and most destructive wildfires. Dry vegetation, wind, and low humidity can still create dangerous conditions. Give your home a safety check: 🌿 Move combustible materials at least five feet from your home. 🏠 Clear leaves and debris from roofs and rain gutters. 🔥 Check that vents are ember-resistant; this means 1/16-inch to 1/8-inch corrosion-resistant, non-combustible metal mesh designed to block wind-driven fire embers and flames from entering a structure’s attic, crawl space, or eaves during a wildfire. Cooler weather doesn’t mean the wildfire threat is over. Stay vigilant, and don’t let your guard down.

State Geologist Jeremy Lancaster w/@CAGeoSurvey explains how rapid heavy rainfall can create devasting flash floods and debris flow in areas previously burned by wildfire; and what we are doing to mitigate these hazards.
As we face Santa Ana winds and El Niño conditions, California’s work to protect communities from extreme weather never stops. This @weatherchannel story shows the work state crews have been leading since the 2025 LA fires — adding new protections for communities in case of post-fire debris flows.

🚩 CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER! 🚩   Dry vegetation and strong winds will increase wildfire danger across parts of California starting early Thursday morning.   A Red Flag Warning is in effect: 🔹Sierra Nevada range and foothills: 12  a.m. Thursday to 10 a.m. Friday. 🔹Portions of Lake County: 4 a.m. Thursday to 2 p.m. Thursday. 🔹Los Angeles, Kern, and Ventura counties: early Thursday morning through 10 p.m. Friday.   A Fire Weather Watch is in effect Friday morning through Friday afternoon for the mountains of San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties. In portions of Lake County, a Fire Weather Watch will take effect late Thursday night, after the Red Flag Warning expires, and remain in effect through Friday afternoon.   Why does this matter? Dry vegetation can ignite easily, and strong winds can quickly spread flames into new areas, making wildfires harder to control and threatening nearby communities.   Avoid any and ALL activities that could spark a wildfire. Keep your go-bag ready, know at least two evacuation routes, and be prepared to leave if an evacuation is ordered.   📲 Get wildfire information and alerts directly from first responders with the AwareCA app: aware.ca.gov 🔗 Visit ReadyForWildfire.org to learn how to prepare. @CalNatResources

The state is mobilizing as directed by @CAgovernor. Alongside the state’s firefighting preparations, @CAStateParks and partner agencies are launching a new coordinated protocol for closing parklands during Red Flag warnings in the Santa Monica Mountains.  The protocol will be used for the first time tomorrow to help prevent wildfire ignitions, protect visitors and neighboring communities, and reduce the number of people who may need to evacuate if a fire starts.
With strong Santa Ana winds and elevated fire danger ahead, I’m mobilizing @Cal_OES and @CAL_FIRE to preposition resources across Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Orange counties and prepare emergency authorities for activation.  We’re taking proactive steps to protect our communities and keep Californians safe.
