What an experience I had this summer as the Pitching Coach for the @NMRebelsVBL in the Valley Baseball League. This summer our pitchers finished 2nd in the league in strikeouts(321)in 36 games and 4th in the league in ERA out of 12 teams… My Pitching philosophy is pretty simple: No program is cookie cutter. Every pitcher comes with a different story, different strengths, different fears, and different goals. My job is not to make them all throw the same way. It is to figure out what each one of them needs to succeed . The biggest improvements don’t come from changing deliveries. They come from changing mindsets. When pitchers stop trying to be someone else and start understanding what makes them successful, their confidence will grow, their execution will improve, and the entire staff will become more consistent. This was my philosophy going into the summer, and then I watched as every pitcher on my staff lived it out in real time. They came with so much talent. I simply built trust, asked questions, emphasized confidence, and kept the message simple. We had pitchers from power 4 D-1 conferences all the way down to junior college guys. Now I can’t wait to see how each of these guys are going to thrive in their own college programs this season ..
