The biggest things missed here are twofold. One is sex is distinct from sexualization and two, sex is also one of the most sacred things in the human experience, not just something we need to do, but it is a stabilizing factor for life. Sex forms families, families form cultures and cultures form societies. Sexualization however, is the process of taking sex and making it a commodity, marketing tool, or constant source of stimulation, i.e., fanservice. When something that is supposed to be intimate becomes ubiquitous, commercialized, and detached from intimacy, it actually becomes devalued in the realest sense in society. Its this devaluing of sex that has led to things like hook up culture, STD epidemics (which still goes on nobody wants to talk about it), and pushing the boundaries of what's permissible into the realms of the obscene and debased. It is also why we see the results of sex also be devalued (babies). Yes, just because sex is now treated as just a fun thing you should have and that nobody should stop you from, people view abortion as a way to "continue the fun" instead of treating sex and its results seriously. Think about it like this, we don't treat gluttony the same way do sexualization. We recognize if you eat to much, you get fat, you get unhealthy, we recognize gluttony as a gross and destructive thing that should be reined in to moderation, never excess. But similar and sometimes worse things comes as a result of constant sexualization, but you find it odd that people want it limited in our media? Oversexualization ruins relationships, the person consuming it, and destroys how they view others. While I love Japanese culture and the people, they aren't the gurus in this, and experience the same brokeness as us due to oversexualization. Since sex is so important, doesn't it make more sense to treat it MORE serious than what see? Sex is more important than just to be pure stimuli in all the media we consume. It damages adults and especially children. Many anime marketed towards kids actually has a lot of sexualization and becomes a gateway into the very problems I just talked about. Sex on the brain all the time is not a good thing, its a result of a culture drowning in addiction. So yeah, im with toning down fan service, its not needed. All its purpose is to do the exact same thing ACTUAL porn does to you, nothing more. Sex doesn't NEED to come from what we watch for good stories, adventure, comedy, action, drama or slice of life.
