An introduction: Life-long Canes fan and alumni. Spent early part of my career as a sports producer/researcher. Can't get enough Canes content, and I figured the best way I could contribute myself would be doing what I know best which is digging into stats and trends. Will be mostly Canes football here, but probably some hoops as well.
For everyone complaining about "stat padding"
Malachi Toney in the 4th Q of non-competitive games this year (every game but FSU)

Darian Mensah with his 6th 3+ Pass TD game, and 2nd 4+ TD game as a Cane. He has 14 career games with 3+ Pass TD. #GoCanes
Malachi Toney has 952 Receving yards this season
In just 7 games it is already t-9th for most yards in a season by a Miami player
It is 266 yards more than Xavier Restrepo's previous 7-game rec yard record in 2024.
Canes are the only FBS team with six 40+ point games this season. They are 2 shy of the team record.

Mark Fletcher Jr's touchdown today tied him with Edgerrin James and Stephen McGuire for most total rush/rec TD all-time by a Miami player. #GoCanes
MALACHI TONEY: 16 RECEPTIONS

Check out the defensive chart here.
Miami allowing the fewest red zone possessions in the country (12)
More impressively they allow less than 3pts (2.75) per RZ possession.
4 TD, 3 FG, 5 stops
Now 4 of 5 FSU TDs last weekend came from 20+ yds which is a separate story

WHO'S NUMBER 1?
Last time as AP #1
Miami: December 8, 2002
BYU: January 3, 1985
Ohio State: 39 days ago
Fine. I'll answer by own question.
BYU probably has the best resume now among the undefeateds. But at #8 that might be a big jump.
Miami just needed to win cleanly tonight to be #1 and they couldn't. I think it will cost them the top spot. However AP voters have regularly shown they're quite happy with sliding losers down and winners up without much reconsidering of the order. That could be enough for Canes to be #1
Ohio State had a great win today. It's a safe pick even with 1 loss, but the Texas loss looks worse by the week. Wonder if Sayin injury will factor into votes. It shouldn't, but it might.
