#OnThisDay in 1718, Stede Bonnet, the Gentleman Pirate, was hanged in Charleston. Bonnet was a wealthy landowner whose decision to turn to piracy is still debated. Nonetheless, he is now remembered as one of the most iconic figures of the ‘Golden Age’ of Piracy #PirateHistory

#OnThisDay in 1718, Calico Jack became captain! After he fled from a French warship, Calico Jack Rackham accused Charles Vane of cowardice and cast him adrift in a captured vessel. Rackham would later return to Nassau, before going pirating again with Anne Bonny #PirateHistory
#OnThisDay in 1718, Blackbeard fought his last stand at Ocracoke Inlet. Tired of the harassment of trade, Governor Spotswood sent Lt. Robert Maynard to hunt him down, and Blackbeard was no more. Yet, tales persist of the ‘supernatural’ aspects of his death… #PirateHistory
