Really enjoyed being on the “Investing by the Books” show. Had a great time chatting Henry Singleton and the history of Teledyne.
Want to know how Henry Singleton took Teledyne from $58,000 to $392,000,000 in net income over 27 years? Together with Carter Johnson, we dive deep into the methods used by Singleton and try to pinpoint what enabled this incredible success story. 1/3

Happy 4th of July 🇺🇸🎆 As an adult, the 4th has quickly become my favorite holiday. Brings back that nostalgia of endless summer nights and careless fun as a kid.

RIP to one of the greats… here’s to trying to live a life rationally. Thanks Charlie for the wisdom, laughs, and example of how to live in a world where it’s so easy to get lost.

Checking the Blue Dollar arb while passing through the airport. When I asked for the spot Rate on the Argentina Peso the Western Union lady kindly said with a smile… “We’re not buying but we’ll sell you as much as you want if you need it.”

This is one of the most entertaining threads I’ve stumbled across in a long time. All Ramit is saying is run the numbers. And yet based on the comments, that doesn’t sit well with some folks…
Many people don’t realize the hidden fees involved in buying a house I call these PHANTOM COSTS They see this: - 2-bedroom house for $1600 rent - 2-bedroom house for $1600 mortgage And think: “Same price? I should build equity!”

5/ ProShred Security There’s nothing more boring than shredding paper. Basically, tons of companies are required by local, state, and federal governments to keep paper documentation on sight for ~5-7 years.

First up, MCJ Capital Partners @CarterJohnson23 has a wonderful look at the distributors. Why has this group of companies delivered such fantastic stock returns? Are the reasons why still in place?

Sam Zell was a brilliant business man and real estate investor. I learned a lot studying his S Corp ESOP architecture of the Chicago Tribune. But perhaps the biggest takeaway I found when studying him…

was how he described his parents decision to flee Poland before the Nazi invasion. It’s a fascinating and humbling story of how hard it can be to “act” when big unfathomable change is on the horizon but not yet at the doorstep.

I thought of that story a lot following the Covid developments in late 2019 before it really jumped internationally. No doubt Sam will be missed. Grateful he shared so much wisdom during his time here.
