Wow, this is huge! Moving children in care with their belongings in bin bags is now illegal in Maryland (yes I realise how horrific it is in 2024 to have to say this) If you want free luggage in the UK get in touch with @CasesComfort #ThisIsNotASuitcase

Children do not put themselves in care. Some are born into a dysfunctional world full of trauma, neglect, and abuse. You lose a parent to cancer, mental health, or addiction. Decisions you have no control of, then you face a lifetime of discrimination because of circumstances.
Children in care and care leavers will identify with the trauma responses, the fear of trust, and the impact of their circumstances on their future. Many dig deep to fight and rise. Many lose the battle. Many need help and cannot access it. @dele_official Inspiring. Brave. Needed

@takethat this is my sister. A recently graduated #juniordoctor after 15 years of training. On the train on way home from #hydepark last night, a woman went into cardiac arrest and she saved her life on the platform at #stpancras. She’s always been my hero - #neverforget
There is such an important story to tell here, the horrors of which need to be turned into a positive voice for the benefit of change and learning.

8 years ago I was taken into care...
I'm celebrating because without this I can truly say I'm not sure if be here today if I hadn't, it changed my life and I'll be forever grateful to my foster family and the professionals who've helped me get where I am today!

At 13 I went into care. At 16 I was kicked out of care & went back to an unstable situation. At 18 I studied law at uni. At 25 I was called to the Bar. At 26 I secured Pupillage. In interviews, I took pride in who I am & where I come from. It’s what formed the advocate within me.

My oldest brother phoned me shortly after watching this and said he wants to start talking about his care experience and justice system experience.
This is the biggest impact this interview has had on me. It’s inspired my siblings to start finding power in their own stories.
With a shortage of suitable accommodation closer to home, children in care are too often being sent away from their local communities.
@JaneDodgeC4 meets Isabelle - who ended up hundreds of miles away from her siblings and grandparents.

At a children's home in Stockport, a child waits with his belongings packed with no idea about when or where he will be moving.

So much to relate to here for #CEP care experienced people of my generation. Our experience, seen as profoundly negative, can produce deep insight, added motivation and desire and we can transform ourselves and situation with love and belief shown in us

If we’re going to tackle exploitation, let’s do it properly.
Victims are male and female from all upbringings and religions.
Every single one of them matter and need a voice.
Let’s give them a voice.

Just because a survivor is smiling it doesn’t mean they no longer experience intrusive & distressing flashbacks from their traumatic past. The mask of mental health can be so deceptive. – at Lambeth, London
