Whenever the Feds talk about storing health records or encryption keys, remember that the NSA can't even protect their best tools.

This is both amusing and horrifying.. It's like being on vacation and a stranger going into your house to clean out your fridge. Sure, it might be helpful but you don't know what he used your toothbrush for..
Lol I am pretty sure someone is runing a deepseek swarm to remotely patch unpatched php boxes. Well good on them.

Recap: - 2024: The PHP vuln was discovered - Core PHP devs couldn't decide on an approach - July: Calif rediscovered it - Aug: OpenAI rediscovered it - Core PHP devs worked on it for weeks - Oct 21: "Chainguard broke embargo" No, @thephpf - take responsibility for your failure
The PHP Foundation says Chainguard unilaterally broke the embargo and published built images containing the critical RCE fixes more than six hours early: “This disregarded weeks of work by many parties toward a coordinated disclosure.” socket.dev/blog/php-embargo-…

*I've been corrected by a core PHP dev that this wasn't a "PHP Core dev" issue - which is a standing group - but just the Security team that couldn't decide on an approach My mistake and I acknowlege it Therefore, I hold my frustration to just the Security team and Foundation

Their tagline: "Trust delivered" It's rare I call for a death sentence for a company.. but you had one job. And failure to do it properly damaged the internet. The fact that this is only one of the many f* ups dropping today may save you.

Whenever my non-tech friends ask: "hey, you work in tech.. what home automation stuff do you use?" Me: I work in security.. so none.
So basically, today PHP got two critical bugs that let anyone run code on your server without even logging in, which is bad, and then the details leaked before the patch was even out, which is worse, and it works on WordPress and MediaWiki and Magento and Joomla and Laravel, and Censys says like 1.5 million servers are running a version with no fix, so the NSA was like "take your system offline," and the FBI was like "take your system offline," and CISA and the UK and CERT-EU were all like "take your system offline," and then the Prime Minister of Japan, the actual Prime Minister, posted at 5:55 in the morning telling 48.8 million people to take their system offline, so everyone took their system offline, like the Dutch cybersecurity agency took its own website offline, and the Dutch parliament went offline, and the Port of Rotterdam went offline, and Finland and France and Denmark started pulling government sites, and Wikipedia went down, and Archive.org went down, and Asana and GOG and Something Awful went down, and the University of Vienna's webmail went down for some reason, and that's just PHP. Because GitLab also dropped a CVSS 10.0, which is the highest score they give out, for a bug that's been there since 2014, so that's every self-hosted GitLab for twelve years, and then LiteLLM 1.107.0 got hijacked and shipped a credential stealer and a remote access trojan in every single wheel and the Docker images, including latest, and you didn't even have to import it, just installing it was enough, and it's the second time this year, and then Railway paused every deployment on the entire platform because someone got into the environment variables, so now everyone has to rotate every secret they've ever stored there, and TiDB Cloud said someone was walking around inside with stolen credentials for basically a month and an extortion group says they took 10.6 terabytes, and Zeabur got breached for the second time in two months and is just shutting down, like the whole company, and Node.js patched remote code execution and a TLS bypass, and CISA says Plex is being actively exploited, and someone took over 300 Tor exit relays to steal SSH passwords, and SafePay ransomware has hit over 600 critical infrastructure orgs, and India's biggest bank filed a data loss incident, and Japan has been in an official state of emergency in cyberspace since October 9, which honestly explains the 5:55 AM post. Oh, and eMudhra, a certificate authority that's issued over 60 million certificates, whose entire job is proving websites are who they say they are, was supposed to be using private keys that are random numbers over a hundred digits long, and one of them was 4. Just 4. And the others were like 66 and 237. Anyway, it's Wednesday.

Turns out that we didn't need quantum computing to break certs. We just needed some crappy engineers to do it for us

Finally got to build a new smokeless firepit here in Indiana. Needs some work but a respectable first pass.

I spent 25 years getting good at web dev. I memorized syntax, browser APIs, accessibility techniques, and performance optimizations, security patterns, and learned dozens of libraries and frameworks. Now I'm trying to decide what knowledge still has value.

Them: But why'd you rebook your flight to avoid Paris? Me:
In France, communists and Muslim migrants are testing their strength on the eve of national elections. These are above all ethnic riots, deployed as a show of force by the red-green alliance, which believes it’s strong enough to overpower the native majority.

Whoa, this is pretty awesome. I'd love to know how much traffic this pushes down the wire..
I’m making the ASCII MMORPG of my dreams and I’ll be sharing my progress here as well. Ansenjeo. #mmorpg #indiegame #ascii

In the next Bond film, I want Bond to see one of these and say "Q, for me?" And for Q to say "James, get your own car. This is my personal one" And then fly away.
Dude. Elon Musk is on another planet.

Truth.. Though the ROI is likely negative on a per-product basis, just think how much easier it got to recruit great engineers who want to do something epic.
All the people screeching about the Tesla Roadster flying car demo don't get it. Nobody thinks this is going to be a practical flying car sold to the mass market, and you just look like a fool debating it. Elon doesn't, Tesla doesn't, the engineers working on it don't, and any sensible public or Tesla investor doesn't. They know they aren't going to sell more than a handful or them or whatever for funsies, that's why it's literally "invite only" on the order page. There is absolutely no sensible business decision to spend 7 years working on this, they know it's going to be a negative return on investment. Heck, if they do get sold there is high likelihood it's going to get someone killed, and that's really bad for business. Just the normal rear Thrust version is probably going to kill people. But they do it anyway for the reasons this poster on the EEVblog forum said. No wonder engineers fall over themselves to work for an Elon company.

I'm proud to say that every male in my life that's seen it had three intial reactions: 1. WHOA 2. How'd they do that? 3. Can I do/buy that? The sheer amount of excitement, wonder, and curiousity that comes with building cool shit IS an ends unto itself

That's a clever take on the Malfoid meme.. Weakening the resolve of the most likely new Voldemort recruits would ripple into their parents and maybe flip some of them or at least sideline them in critical moments Convincing your enemy not to fight is a solid strategy
Omigosh. I'm dying. The implications. You can imagine McGonagall and Dumbledore gaming this out years in advance. How do we get these two rival families together and split the Malfoys from Voldemort? What better way than romance?!
