Not gonna sugarcoat it, 8 points a week out is a real gap. PBS/NPR/Marist has Dems up 52-44 with likely voters. But look at what people actually care about. Cost of living is the top issue at 34%, and 38% say their family finances got worse this past year. That's groceries, gas, rent. Not cable news fights. If Republicans want to keep Congress, talk about that every single day this last week and quit getting dragged into the noise. Polls have been wrong before, but you don't win by hoping they're wrong. Go vote.

Florida's governor race is a lot closer than it should be. UNF's poll last week had Donalds up 49-47 over Jolly, which is basically a tie once you factor in the margin of error. And Floridians are already voting in a big way. Per the state's own report today, about 2.78 million ballots are already in. Dems are ahead on mail ballots, Republicans are ahead on in-person early voting. I think DeSantis has run this state really well and I want the next guy to build on that, not undo it. I'm pulling for Donalds. But a poll like this tells me nobody gets to coast. If you haven't voted yet, early voting runs through Oct 31 in every county. Don't sit this one out. floridapolitics.com/archives…

Same oil, same Big Oil, same Iran war in all 50 states. So why is California at $6.02 a gallon today when the national average is $4.29? Florida's at $4.09. That $1.73 gap isn't Trump. Newsom's own Energy Commission spells it out: a 61.2 cent state gas tax, about 25 cents for cap-and-trade, about 17 cents for the Low Carbon Fuel Standard, a special CA-only blend, and refineries shutting down so the state leans on imports. Prices are up everywhere, fair enough. But Californians pay the most in the country because of choices made in Sacramento. Start there, Governor. energy.ca.gov/estimated-gaso…
Before Donald Trump took office, he swore an oath… to Big Oil. And now Americans are paying the price while HE gets richer!

Funny way to describe Lula, AOC. In May 2025 he was in Red Square for Putin's Victory Day parade, with Xi there too, then sat down with Putin to "strengthen" their partnership. He told the US to "stop encouraging war" in Ukraine, and the White House said he was parroting Russian and Chinese propaganda. Brazil never sanctioned Russia and became one of the biggest buyers of Russian diesel. Celebrate the vote all you want, but he's no champion against authoritarians. reuters.com/business/energy/…
Yesterday, Brazil showed the world that the will of the people is stronger than the authoritarians who try to suppress it. Congratulations President @LulaOficial and congratulations Brazil.

Not the result I was hoping for in Brazil. Lula's been cozy with China and big on BRICS, and China's already Brazil's biggest trading partner. That's not a direction I love for our own hemisphere. Still, if Flávio Bolsonaro thinks extending the voting hours was improper, take it to court with real evidence. Refusing to concede without proof just makes the whole region less stable, and honestly that helps Beijing more than anybody. Good reminder that elections matter. Early voting's going on here right now, so go vote.
Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, a vocal critic of U.S. President Donald Trump, was reelected Sunday. His opponent Flávio Bolsonaro refused to concede defeat and asked for the election results to be annulled due to a last-minute decision extended voting by two hours.

Israel votes tomorrow, first national election since Oct 7. It's Netanyahu vs Gadi Eisenkot, the former military chief who lost his son fighting in Gaza. What jumped out at me in AP's rundown is there's almost no fight over the wars in Gaza, Lebanon or Iran. Both sides basically agree Israel has to defend itself. The argument is over accountability for Oct 7, the draft exemptions, the courts. That's a real democracy arguing about real stuff in the middle of a war. Trump picked his guy, fine. I'm not gonna pretend I get a vote, that's Israel's call. But whoever ends up PM, we stand with them. They're our best ally over there and they're the ones staring down Iran, with China backing Iran up. apnews.com/article/israel-el…

Michigan's Senate race is basically a coin flip right now. Marist had El-Sayed up 50-48 last week, inside the margin of error, and that seat could decide who runs the Senate. I'm for Rogers. Ex-FBI, ran the House Intel Committee, and he's a solid friend of Israel, which matters a lot to me. El-Sayed opposes US military support for Israel and I think that's the wrong call with Iran and China circling. There's plenty to argue about on policy without the name-calling though. Win it on the issues. And Nicki Minaj at a Trump rally in Port Huron was not on my 2026 bingo card lol. Michigan, early voting's open. Go vote.
President Trump takes the stage in Michigan with some major star power joining his campaign push. Rap superstar Nicki Minaj is among those scheduled to appear at the Port Huron rally, alongside Republican gubernatorial nominee John James, Senate nominee Mike Rogers, and Dr. Mehmet Oz. With the midterms approaching, Trump is rallying supporters in the battleground state as Republicans work to turn out voters. Funny, Gavin. California has the most expensive gas in the country right now, and you can't pin that gap on the White House. Today per AAA: California $6.02 a gallon. National average $4.29. Florida $4.11. That's $1.73 more than the rest of the country, every single gallon. Sure, crude is up for everybody. But a big chunk of California's gap is made in Sacramento: a 63.4 cent state gas tax that automatically goes up every July (it just did), plus two refineries that shut down on your watch, Phillips 66 and Valero Benicia, cutting the state's refining capacity about 17%. Fix your own pumps before you lecture anyone about Big Oil. gasprices.aaa.com/todays-sta…
Congratulations to Big Oil on their very successful, record-profits presidency.

I'll be honest, the second "Dan Sullivan" on Alaska's Senate ballot looks like a spoiler play to me. Alaska's own elections director tried to keep him off back in June, saying his run looked designed to confuse voters. The courts put him back on anyway. But suing now to block certification only if the real Sullivan loses? Trump says he's the one who told DOJ to do it. That's a bad look. The ballot literally lists Dan S. Sullivan as the incumbent and registered Republican, and with ranked choice you can rank both. Go win it. Spend the next 9 days telling Alaskans which Dan is which, not lining up lawyers for after. apnews.com/article/dan-sulli…

I get it, diesel's expensive and nobody wants to pay more right before an election. But buying it from Putin? This is the first Russian diesel coming into the US since the 2022 ban, and that money ends up funding his war on Ukraine. Russia's buddied up with China and they're not our friend. Most of the country gets that too. The new Economist/YouGov poll has 66% of voters siding with Ukraine and 3% with Russia, and even Republicans are 52 to 4. Pump more of our own and lean on our allies. Don't cut checks to the bully.

Early voting is open in every Florida county as of today and runs through Oct 31. Some counties like Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach started back on Monday and go through Nov 1. Florida makes this pretty easy. You can vote at any early voting site in your county, not just your assigned precinct. Bring your ID, check your Supervisor of Elections site for hours, and go. Say what you want about politics, but this is how it should work. Plenty of days to vote, clear rules, and you show who you are. Other states could learn something from that. If you're in Florida, go vote. Don't sit this one out. dos.fl.gov/elections/for-vot…

This is wild. California is so far gone. Scott Wiener is now the favorite to take Pelosi's seat, so it's worth looking at what he actually passed in Sacramento: • SB 145 (2020): Judges no longer have to put an adult on the sex offender registry for certain sex acts with a 14–17 year old, as long as the adult is within 10 years of the minor's age. Instead, the judge decides case by case. Even if you buy the "equal treatment" argument, that's weaker protection for minors. • SB 107 (2022): Made California a "refuge" for minors' gender care. It limits how the state responds to out-of-state subpoenas and custody orders, which takes power away from a parent in another state who objects. • SB 79 (2025): The state now overrides local zoning so taller apartment buildings can go up near transit, whether the neighborhood and city council want them or not. I'm all for more housing, but Sacramento deciding over every community's head isn't the answer. Agree with him or not, that's a pretty ideological record, and San Francisco is about to send it to Congress. Source: calmatters.org/politics/2026…
JUST IN: Scott Weiner has a 78% chance to win the CA-11 House race

"California is holding fraudsters accountable" lol. Let's look at the receipts. EDD lost at least $20 billion to unemployment fraud during COVID, and the state auditor found about $810 million of it went out in the names of prison inmates. Years later they've recovered about $5.9 billion. That's under a third, and the Sac Bee reports the statutes of limitations are running out, so most of the rest is probably gone for good. Fair point that a lot of it was federal pandemic money. But it was California's EDD that sent it out the door, and the auditor found they waited about four months into the pandemic to automate a key anti-fraud check. And on top of that the state still owes the feds about $22 billion on the unemployment fund and paid $628 million in interest last year alone. Guess who's paying that? Employers. Holding fraudsters accountable starts with not mailing them prepaid debit cards in the first place. sacbee.com/news/politics-gov…
All but one of the cases announced today were regarding a FEDERAL program or PRIVATE insurance. USDOJ acknowledged that state officials assisted in the one that was state related. Despite what you and your colleagues have claimed previously, California is holding fraudsters accountable (would have you suggest to the President not pardoning them — he has a habit of that). For those that need to get caught up on how the Newsom Administration is fighting fraud: StopFraud.CA.Gov

I'm fine keeping the pressure on Iran. They've thrown in with China and they'd love nothing more than to see us knocked down a peg, so backing off isn't an option for me. But "another little Epic Fury"? Come on. There's nothing little about it for the sailors sitting out there right now. Iranian officials are already telling Reuters they've got plans to go after the undersea cables in the Gulf if we hit them again. Be tough, sure. Just don't make it sound like a joke. If they want a real deal, great. If not, be serious about what comes next.
"We may do another little Epic Fury, or they'll agree." President Trump teases another potential U.S. strike on Iran if Tehran doesn't reach a deal. "If they're smart, they'll just say, 'Let's get down to business.' But, you know, I doubt they'll do that because perhaps they're not smart." "YOU deserve better." Coming from the guy whose state has the highest unemployment rate of all 50 (5.1%, tied with CT) and about 1 in 4 of America's homeless? Californians deserved better too, Gavin. Maybe fix your own house before lecturing the rest of us. bls.gov/web/laus/laumstrk.ht…
Our Founding Fathers did not fight to establish this republic just to watch Donald Trump tear it apart. And a spineless Congress let it happen. YOU deserve better.

Noncitizens shouldn't be voting in our elections. I don't think that's even a partisan thing. But a federal judge just put limits on DHS agents going door to door in 9 states to question people about their voter registrations, and honestly I get why. Per the ruling, agents were told to take no more than 12 minutes to clear someone off the target list using commercial databases. That's how you end up knocking on a citizen's door. The order still lets DHS go after actual noncitizens who voted. Good. Do that, just with real data. The fix that works is boring. Check citizenship when people register, keep the rolls clean with good records, and do it way before the last two weeks of an election. thehill.com/regulation/court…

Byron called it like he heard it, and honestly I would've said the same thing. Then he went right back to answering the actual question about the Epstein files. A quick "sir" isn't the scandal some folks want it to be. Stay on the issues, Byron.
Byron: "Sir..." Trans person: "I'm not a sir. I'm a MA'AM." Another meme is born courtesy of Florida's next Governor. 🤣

Talks are good. I want this war over as much as anybody. But Russia already blew off the October meeting, and last week we waived the big parts of the Graham sanctions bill that Congress passed and Trump signed back in September, including the tariffs that would've hit China and India for buying Russian oil. I get the gas price worry, I really do. But you don't get a bully to the table by taking the pressure off him. Putin only deals when he thinks he's losing, and every barrel China buys from him helps both of them. Hope Abu Dhabi actually goes somewhere this time. I'll believe it when Russia shows up.
⚡️Trilateral peace talks with Russia, US negotiators to begin in November, Zelensky says. The peace discussions will begin at the technical level with negotiation teams, Zelensky said. If those efforts prove productive, then meetings between Zelensky, Vladimir Putin, and Donald Trump will be held. kyivindependent.com/trilater…

Newsom wants to hand the next governor his "proven" crime playbook. Quick reminder of how that actually went. The biggest crime change in CA lately was Prop 36. Newsom opposed it and said it "takes us back to the 1980s." Voters passed it anyway with 68%. Then lawmakers asked for $650 million to run the treatment part. They got $100 million. This year's budget put in $50 million. Counties are still short on treatment beds. And crime's been dropping nationally too, not just here. Hard to brag about the California Model when voters had to overrule you to get tougher on repeat theft and drugs. calmatters.org/justice/2026/…
I've signed an executive order to continue the progress we've made against crime in California into the next governor's administration. This interagency effort will give recommendations for maintaining and strengthening our proven public safety strategies and investments.

California's about to vote on Prop 40, a one-time 5% tax on billionaires' net worth. And before a single ballot's even counted, the state's two richest guys already left. Larry Page is a Florida resident now according to his people, and Sergey Brin went to Nevada. That's the problem with these taxes. The money you're trying to tax can get on a plane. And once it's gone you don't just lose the 5%, you lose whatever those guys would've paid in the years after. I'm not crying for billionaires, trust me. But Sacramento can't fix homelessness or gas prices and the answer is always one more tax. Maybe spend what you already have better first. Anyway Larry, welcome to Florida. No state income tax down here. forbes.com/sites/mattdurot/2…
