Duty doesn’t drive fertility. Joy does. Seeing childbearing as a moral obligation doesn’t predict kids. (China ranks high on that view & its fertility is under 1.) But people who see kids as one of life’s greatest joys are 30% more likely to intend another child. @DrJasonCarroll @lymanstoneky @PeterRFB @Deseret deseret.com/opinion/2026/10/…

Abdul El-Sayed says he's facing what JFK faced. @AshMcG of @CatholicAssoc says not even close: the questions are "not rooted in religious bigotry, as were biases faced by JFK, but rather in valid concerns about… potential family ties to terrorism."

Gospel of the Day (Luke 12,49-53) Jesus said to his disciples: “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing! There is a baptism with which I must be baptized, and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished! Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. From now on a household of five will be divided, three against two and two against three; a father will be divided against his son and a son against his father, a mother against her daughter and a daughter against her mother, a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law." vaticannews.va/en/word-of-th…

George Weigel of @EPPCdc: "Permit me to suggest, however, that the Church’s primary and most urgent task in confronting AI is evangelization: doing everything we can to persuade those developing AI at breakneck speed that we are creatures of a Creator, not bipedal algorithms with data-processing capacities to be maximized." “The history of the world without saints would be immeasurably poorer; that is, less human.” In his first private audience since undergoing lung surgery, Pope Leo XIV met with participants of the Vatican’s “Holiness in History” conference on Wednesday, emphasizing the importance of studying the lives of saints with historical rigor and understanding them within the context of their time. The Holy Father highlighted how the saints offer the faithful examples of holiness, spiritual guides, and intercessors who help the Church face today’s challenges and recognize new opportunities. Their witness, he said, continues to inspire the People of God in our own times. Discover more at ewtnvatican.com

This week's show: We had a very sobering conversation with Bloomberg writer Abby McCloskey @McCloskeyAbby on how AI is affecting children: "AI is not created to be your average, semi-annoying and disinterested person. AI is created to be an ego-stroking, quick to respond, friction-free, basically the way no person actually is or maybe even should be. As a result, you start imagining as a child that this is what a normal human interaction is."
