Greg Abbott has imitated a hostile takeover of the local school district in Houston, TX — taking control away from the local school board so that it’s now run by the state.

It’s been a year since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. Since then, 14 states have banned most abortions, leaving millions of women and girls with nowhere to turn for the care they need.
And yet, there are reasons to hope.
After Roe v. Wade was overturned, voters in Michigan, California, and Vermont helped enshrine abortion rights in their state constitutions. And governors in states like Nevada, Hawaii, and Pennsylvania have signed executive orders to protect abortion access.

Over the last two decades, more school-age children have died from guns than on-duty police officers and active duty military combined.
Think about that.
Congress, the time to pass stronger gun safety reforms is now.

If you have student loan debt, you should know this:
Every single House Republican just voted to overturn President Biden’s student debt forgiveness plan AND retroactively charge you interest on your paused payments.

As a parent I’m not worried that my 9 and 13 year olds are going to be “indoctrinated” with “wokeness” at school.
I’m not worried that they’re going to ‘feel guilty about their whiteness’ because they’re learning accurate history.
I’m not worried that they’re going to be “groomed” to become furries and to make their pees pees in litter boxes.
Those things aren’t real.
Wanna know what is real?
My worry that they’re going to get shot. That someone with an AR-15 is going to go into their school and shoot them.
So, while the same gun fetishizing, AR-15 lapel pin wearing, locked and loaded family Christmas card posing Republicans fear monger & manufacture crises under the guise of “parents rights”, I say this:
It is my right as a parent to send my kids to school without worrying that they will get shot.
It ain’t the drag queens, the African American history, the books with two moms or two seahorse dads which threaten our kids.
It’s the fucking guns.

Eight lives tragically cut short. As I grieve with my fellow Texans and pray for those who were injured, I won't accept that we are powerless to prevent this.
It's our responsibility as lawmakers to help make our communities safer. We must take common sense steps to save lives.

Whoa. Texas Republicans just voted give a GOP appointee the power to singe-handedly CANCEL election results in the state’s largest Democratic county. The new rule only applies to Harris County, which is one of the fastest-trending blue counties in the US. houstonchronicle.com/politic…

So, the same state that just gave the Secretary of State the power to CANCEL election results in its largest Democratic county is also the same state that wants to ban all polling locations on college campus. This isn’t random. It’s the literal definition of voter suppression.

so let me get this straight. you all watched greg abbott sit and do nothing after 19 children were murdered, sat in freezing temperatures as he did nothing, and watched him sign away the right for women to have full bodily autonomy, and you still voted for him? you’re disgusting.

Putting aside how characteristically gross it is that Fox would relish in a family’s struggles with addiction for political gain, this is also a beautiful tutorial in how a loving father should reach out to his son in the throes of substance use disorder.
