#Oliverscampaign My heart bleeds for the autistic man who was mauled to death by a tiger after entering its enclosure The horrific name calling directed at him says so much about how disabled people continue to be viewed & devalued by some in our society

'To the person who says it's a snowflake generation, just live just 24 hours as a 16 year old' Professor Peter Fonagy, the head of an independent review into mental health, ADHD and autism, has told Catherine Burns on #BBCBreakfast that there has been a real rise in mental distress among children and young people, with anxiety, depression, self-harm and eating disorders bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cqzr…

My brother is a 62 year old paranoid schizophrenic who suffers delusions even when taking medication. He had a nearly thirty year career in the civil service until he became too ill to work. Last week he failed a Work Capability Assessment, and has been told to look for work.
'We're trying to get them into work and they don't give a damn!' Caller Glen, who works at a Jobcentre, tells Shelagh Fogarty that some benefits claimants are 'taking the mickey out of the country'.

Accountability. A fundamental thing lacking in the NHS. Zero hesitation in saying so.

My brother is a 62 year old paranoid schizophrenic, who still suffers mild delusions even while taking medication. He has just had a Work Capability Assessment and has failed. He has been found fit enough to spend thirty five hours a week job searching. Abolish the DWP.

I can give you a million and one examples why cutting benefits for people with mental health conditions is a bad idea. Take the case of Errol Graham. He suffered from severe anxiety and they stopped his benefits. Did it get him back to work? No. He slowly starved to death.
After listening to Reform UK’s welfare proposals, I can tell you this with certainty: it would lead to a lot of suffering and death. So many people would fall through the cracks. #ReformUK #Welfare

In the final months of his life, Jason Arday was subject to a relentless onslaught of attacks and abuse. Jason was a human being with friends and family - but he was turned into a pawn for vicious culture wars by a cruel media industry motivated by racism and clicks. The lessons are never learned. When will the British media face accountability for its behaviour? Jason was much loved by those around him. May he rest in peace.

A selection of articles published by The Spectator between August 01 and August 14 2026:
BREAKING: Jason Arday, the former University of Cambridge professor, has been found dead at an address in Battersea, according to reports. A spokesperson for the Metropolitcan Police said the 41-year-old's death is not being treated as suspicious. “Sadly, a 41-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by officers," he said. “At this time his death is being treated as unexpected, but is not believed to be suspicious. "The case is being investigated by officers from the Met’s Central South Command Unit. A file will be prepared for the coroner.” More follows...

Noone should be made to feel that they are only worth their A level results, degree, or job. Noone should be made to feel that low paid manual work is lazy, not trying, not 'bettering'. Noone should be made to feel that being unable to work through illness/disability means worthlessness & being undeserving.

Note the deliberate linking of MH & employment support. You don't see cancer & employment support centres
Replying to @screenedout
Based on the model of Southdown's 'Staying Well' service, which provides "mental health and employment support" southdown.org/services/stayi… And this will be one of the 'emergency' centres. An "alternative to A&E" offering 24/7 employment support?

"Seeing TikTok videos about severely disabled people with 24/7 care being made to go to the job centre to prove they cannot work. 95% of comments saying this is happening because of ‘fakers’. But if the system is so strict then how is anyone ‘faking’ getting through?!"

Unless you have lived in the same house with someone needing 24/7 care for frailty and dementia, it can be easy to be casual about being a carer for an older person.

You grow up in the world of medicine admiring articles in the @bmj_latest Then you become a regular contributor to it via articles.. And then? One day you are writing an obituary. I hope I have done justice to honour this amazing woman- brave, strong, talented...and above all, kind and loving. I don’t want anyone to know her via “association” with Partha Kar She was first and foremost Dr. Anannya Kar And I hope this represents her as best as possible. I thank many for the love, kindness, space and empathy shown over the last few months. Life goes on- and responsibilities don’t go away So we take our steps forward Slowly and gently ❤️

It’s that time of year where I need to complete mandatory training. Grateful for mothers like Ajibola Lewis and @PaulaMc007 who have worked so hard for change in services, I just wish that they weren’t put in that position in the first place 😞
