Out in @CurrentBiology: a challenge to traditional views on distorted body representations. With @LukeMillerNeuro and @pmedendorp at @DondersInst we found that biases in hand perception stem from somatosensory computations, not a distorted hand model. authors.elsevier.com/a/1j2ki…

A challenge to the long-held idea of distorted hand model! With @LukeMillerNeuro & @pmedendorp we show that biases in finger perception arise from the Bayesian integration of accurate but noisy signals encoded in spatial coordinates. Preprint: bit.ly/46LOrSA

Paper alert! Many of us assume that when amputees feel a touch on their face, they also sense it in their missing hand, all thanks to brain plasticity. But what if this is based on flawed scientific evidence? Here’s a breakdown of our paper doi.org/10.1016/j.cortex.202…

Interesting results from some Twitter polls - academics believe that academia hires candidates with privilege even if they don't translate that into higher performance/outputs. Worth thinking about & potentially doing some more rigorous research.
== Academic hiring: gaps between WOULD versus SHOULD == Previous tweet blew up, and I personally learned a lot about academia from it, so here is a followup. I ran two surveys about hiring practices, how we hire versus how we should hire. Here's a comparison: 🧵👇

❗️Preprint Alert❗️ 🤘🍾🎉 We show that both localization-based perceptual hand maps and tactile distance perception on the hand change following a recalibration protocol that is based on visuotactile ventriloquism. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Linux is available in many different distributions. We recommend Ubuntu as it is a beginner friendly distribution, tested with #Psychtoolbox, and if you install a Long Term Support (LTS) release you will get security updates for at least 5 years - great for long running studies!
