How do you tag tiny hummingbirds? With tiny back-pack tags! 🎒
Our researchers are working to expand a project tagging the beautiful birds in the Andes to find out more about their lives.

@cmpsciencecentr & @CellTrackTech made a very very tiny butterfly backpack, with built-in Bluetooth! They're solar powered & weigh as little as a grain of rice!🦋🎒📡
Xerces & others have backpack'd monarchs in several locations — now it’s up to you to help us track them! 2/🧵

Birds in care:
Recent reports of increasing number of emaciated Brown Pelicans coming into care, serve as a stark reminder that our work in wildlife rehabilitation never truly ends.

Hungry pelicans are still taking risks to find food, endangering themselves in the process. Out of 300+ Brown Pelican admissions, approximately one-third of them are arriving with injuries, many of which are caused by fishing hook and line entanglement. Many of these injuries require surgery and long-term care.

Cool. Not sure when @CellTrackTech @ListenWithTerra changed Terra to include #MOTUS. After Terra with MOTUS, neato if @IDADarkSky + @stars4all_eu + @ListenWithTerra cc @WOAH build upon synergies to make device that reaches more places & democratize #lightpollution monitoring. 1/2

At the same time, build upon #crowdsource & #citizenscience @mybirdbuddy + @CornellBirds + @CellTrackTech @ListenWithTerra <Terra with #MOTUS> cc @WOAH. For example, #wildlifetracking based on #ecologicalcontext (eg #bioacoustic + #visual #data) help with #disease monitoring. 2/2

Setting up our ~1km sq @CellTrackTech grid in the paramo was tough work 😱 But don't forget maintenance efforts: fix nodes bent by the wind or spectacled bears 🐻 and troubleshoot tech problems 🤓 Worth it for amazing movement data and thanks to collab @PELORD @ParquesColombia

Multiple Brown Pelican patients are getting released with more than just their blue and federal bands: an electronic leg band for tracking with @CellTrackTech.
Given that some blue-banded pelicans have been sighted nearly 14 years post-release, we’re enthusiastic about our involvement in a research project aimed at improving tracking of their whereabouts. #WildlifeResearch
